Weekend Ice Fishing

1 Attachment(s)
Hit the ice the last 2 days, fishing Lake Hopatcong. Saturday started ugly but turned out to be a nice day, with the sun coming out in the afternoon. No flags, but I did jig a few perch and sunnies. Today I decided around 9am to shoot up before the rain hit. I had some spikes left over and decided to just jig. I caught a few nice, big perch and one fat sunny. I also caught this whopper. Probably the smallest perch of the ice fishing season. He would have been great bait for a tip up, but I spared him. I'll catch him and eat him next year. TD

Yep i got into a bunch of perch that size myself today as the rain started, i left the ice at 3:15pm after a slime dart took my jig:mad: cool report. Lets hope the shore lines do not rot to fast this week next weekend is probably going to be the dreaded end of a good season:(

Looks like a few nice cold overnights during the week. We should be able to hold some ice, in spots. March gets sketchy with more day light. Ice Badger, you have been spot on all season...jigging off the bottom is the way to go. TD

Glad you getting out and into some fish.

LoL, that perch would make a nice bait for pike or musky though. Would of went straight on my tip up.

Stay safe.

I’m thinking the same badger... we’ll see!

More fish should be headed shallow with the warming water. We still have lots of ice in certain spots but if you don’t have a plank you won’t be able to get on. The shallow side of Monksville still has a solid foot of ice as of today. Just be careful! Spud, spud, spud! Keep on jigging man! :D

I headed home before the rain on Sunday morning but managed a perch, a crappie, and a pickerel on tip ups and a big perch jigging. Was able to recycle someone else’s holes from the previous day for the first time this season
