Reel Input/Opinions....
Looking at these 2 .......Maxel Hybrid 20 and a Siegler SGN.
For general inshore fishing. Don’t own either of these makes. Any thoughts pro/con? Leaning toward the Maxel because of the thumb release but really like the looks of the Siegler. Thanks. |
Re: Reel Input/Opinions....
The Siegler is U.S. made, and guaranteed for life. If you sell the reel, the guarantee goes with it.

Re: Reel Input/Opinions....
Want a reel with a thumb release for inshore fishing .
Penn Fathom low profile 300 |
Re: Reel Input/Opinions....
I have the Maxel Hybrid 20 and it has served me well last 3 years.
Several friends have the same reel and like them a lot. 28 lbs drag more than you'll ever need inshore. If I had it to do over I would get the 25 as the narrow spool 20 will not comfortably accomodate a larger thumb. It works for me but I think I would prefer the 25. With the power handle it is a little beast of a reel. |
Re: Reel Input/Opinions....
Thanks for the input guys. Putting this reel on a rod I’m having built now. Won’t decide what reel to get until the rod is in my hands next week. Just wanted some input.
Capt Dan, not a big fan at all of level winds or low profiles. How you like the fathom level wind when dropping in deeper water? |

Crazy smooth drag in a light super strong reel . They had 24 to 30 pounds of drag when the other conventional had 14. Great inshore reel for stripers , fluke , tog , sea bass . Fish them from 2- 100 foot without any issue . . . |
Re: Reel Input/Opinions....
I have the maxel 20 on a jigging world black widow 150 g. It wrecks fish. Solid reel. No complaints
