Need Marine surveyor
 

I just bought a boat and it’s in Jersey City. Can anyone please recommend a marine surveyor?

The boat market is crazy and so is surveyor . They are so busy and some of them booked solid til August.

Here is a list I found... https://www.marinesurvey.org/surveyo...es/new-jersey/ I have not used any of them and the guy I used in the past is no longer in that business... I did call a friend who recommended Bob Moro 973 239-5821 tell him Lenny recommended him..

In case you are not aware, most surveyors typically survey the hull and the mechanicals, will water test the boat to make sure the engines are getting up to the required RPMs, but most are not going to do an in depth survey of the engine itself.

Depending on which type of motors you have, you might want to have a more in depth survey done on them.. Compression test, oil analysis, confirm engine hours, any fault codes etc.. If you want to go that route, you'll likely need to contact someone who is an authorized dealer for your motor brand and or has the diagnostic tools needed to do a more complete run down on your engines.

Thanks so Jerry for the detailed information. I bought a 2016 sea fox 256 Voyager with Twin Yamaha 150 . Only has 70 hours on both engines. Not sure if I need compression test but I will ask.

Should have had the boat surveyed prior purchase unless you put money in escarole pending the survey report ! I would be more concerned about engines then hull at this point !

With as few hours as those engines have on them, I wouldn't be too concerned.. What I would is be sure to sea trial the boat and make sure they get up to their max rpm which you can find on the Yamaha website. If they do your compression is probably fine. I would also check the lower unit oil for signs of water intrusion.. If the oil has water in it it will be milky/tan color.

What year are the engines?

The engine is 2016. However the owner bought the boat in 2017 so he only use it for less than three years.

he will also check the bottom of the hill arranged a short haul. he is not going to do the compression test against the engine

Paul Case out of Atlantic Highlands. Very thorough and very well known. Used him 3 times and does excellent work.
