Bayonne Striped Bass

1 Attachment(s)
It was great to be home for Thanksgiving last week and it was even better to get out an do some fishing. I fished on the morning of Black Friday for a few hours from Bayonne using bloodworms. Caught 3 stripers which I'm pretty happy about. There is a picture of one of them below as well a a video of the whole trip. Let me know what you think.

Very nice. Better than putting up with the shopping crowd!

ALK11: Back in the late 50s and early 60s I used to fish for stripers and blues from what was called the 'Long Docks'. They were just north of the Navy Base later named MOTBY.
Were you on the east or west side of Bayonne?

This was the east side just South of the old MOTBY. In the video you can see it on the opposite bank. Not too many spots to fish in the area you are talking about. Although there are still plenty of other spots in Bayonne.

Thanks for the video. Brought back alot of great memories. Weakfish on the Bay ridge flats, Fluke by the Global pier, ridiculous Bass fishing and Tommy Cod at Caven point.

My father used to love fishing Global after work.....( and sometimes you got to see a drag race..)
caught blue, bass, fluke....

A few years ago I was watching some guys catch some keeper blackfish by the teardrop statue..

Nice video, thanks for posting. Lot of fish inhabit the back bays if you know where to look and there's a healthy supply of bass during the winter as well. Fish have a wide range of tolerances they can live in, good day on the water especially since it seemed you had the place to yourself. Really good video, great job and nothing wrong with feeling like you're in high school again!

No one ever believes me when I talk about how good the fishing is in Hudson County. Just because there aren't any beaches doesn't mean there aren't any fish. Anything you can catch down the shore you can catch with the New York skyline in the background. I absolutely loved growing up in Bayonne and being able to fish like I did.

This was actually pretty close to Global. I was thinking I'd get some blackfished mixed in here on the high-low rig I was using. I was a little surprised that all I got were stripers that day.

I'm a bit spoiled living in Florida now, but also a little bored. It's the same fishing all year long. What I loved and miss about Bayonne and New Jersey in general was the various fishing seasons. You've got stripers and some mixed bottom fish in the fall and winter, stripers and blues in the spring, blues and fluke in the summer. It was always something different every couple of months. Kept me entertained.
