Must read--the gambler operation
Scheduled for the 11/13-14 tuna trip, my SUV gave up that morning. Called the office manager, left message to cancel with reason @ 1 PM....Departure time was 8PM Wed. nite Got a call @ 3:48PM from Capt74(Greg) telling me he was on his way to get me--I'm in Pa.--1hr45min away.. he should be here by 6PM & we'll make it by 8PM---Capt. Bob said he's not going 'til we get there...We make it to the Gambler just as Bob is giving his pre-boarding speech & prayer @ 7:45...
For an angler to be that well thought-of to make sure he's on board is TOTALY MIND BOGOLING!!! & to take those extreme measures to ensure his boarding is beyond all hopes & expectations...I get teary-eyed whenever I now think of the circumstances---and I really did when it was happening!!!(kind'a emotional anyway)... A very good buddy(Shorts, 2na) who also lives in Pa., brought me home with my gear. I am so indebted and at the same time blessed!!!!!!! To make it even more incredible, I got the "pool" fish & the first fish...And you ask, why do I fish on the GAMBLER? I truly feel so humbled!!! |
Re: Must read--the gambler operation
That’s a nice story and speaks volumes that they would do that for you.

Re: Must read--the gambler operation
Really, Greg74 volunteered. Said he could not leave Chuck home. He is the best. It was good to see your face, Chuck. I hope Greg didn't white-knuckle you on the ride :p I told him I would wait.

Re: Must read--the gambler operation
Great gesture for sure .
I know Capt Bob goes out of his way other times also . Seen him walk many of his customers around the tackle vendor's at the salt show to make sure they buy the correct tackle to maximize their experience on those trips. . |
Re: Must read--the gambler operation
Chuck, I have had the pleasure of fishing with you for fifteen years. When new people come on the boat and what to know what to do I always say see the old guy in the corner do what he does he is one of the best and I mean it. When they told me you had car trouble and could not make it was a no brainer. Glad I could help out and looking forward to fishing with you for the next 15 years.

Re: Must read--the gambler operation
Great story all around! Class act by all involved and for the Captain not throwing the lines until the parties involved arrived. I've witnessed boats sail where patrons had all their stuff on board and left to hit the tackle shop before sailing and the boat took off while the unlucky anglers was yelling from the dock but the Captain wouldn't turn back. Would have taken less than 5 minutes out of the day and I'm sure the other fares wouldn't have minded. Good acts always comes back ten fold, something to remember.
