swimming with stripers!

bit of a late report but just got back from a trip to the jersey shore where the water was suprisingly clear on wednesday. as clear as i'd ever seen it. so decided to do some snorkeling in the sandy hook area and to my surprise a school of stripers swam with me as i snorkeled in about 10 feet of water. they seemed very curious as they paced me for probably 30 seconds or so before they disappeared. probably several dozen at about two feet long (caught one later on - safely released). was also surrounded by peanut bunker and they circled around me for several minutes - so cool. only saw 2 fluke but all sorts of different types of crabs and plenty of snappers chasing rainfish and spearing. we fishermen spend so much time above the water... amazing what you can see when you actually get under the surface! :)

Very cool...never got the chance to do that although I passed a scuba class & had all the gear...deepest I ever got was 6' on a hull inspection of a sunken sport fisher @ the dock after a Nor'easter.
