Fish Finder Rec
My son just bought a 12 ft aluminum boat and he wants to add some electronics!!! Any recs on a fish finder for him?? WIll be mostly at Merrill Creek and Spruce Run. Don't wanna break the bank either.
Thanks for any help. |
Re: Fish Finder Rec
Get a combination. Plotter and FF. Best bang for buck 5 inch screen.
Garmin in favorite on that. I have had Lowrance and Foruno FF's. Both good. I run a 14' Aluminum Mirrocraft... primarily crabbing. |
Re: Fish Finder Rec
you can save some $ by going used on ebay
def get GPS capabilities for marking waypoints...a unit that can read map chips is nice but not critical |
Re: Fish Finder Rec
Does this one look ok??
https://www.thegpsstore.com/Garmin-S...CABEgIWcfD_BwE Will also be doing a bunch of crabbing, Capt Frank!! |
Re: Fish Finder Rec
You can't go wrong with Garmin... If you have a few extra dollars to spare and you're going to use the chart plotter a lot, I might opt for this one https://www.thegpsstore.com/Garmin-S...cer-P5421.aspx
I say this for 2 reasons.... - If your are going to be displaying in split screen, chart and fish finder at the same a 5 inch screen is going to be tough to read... - The unit mentioned above also allows you to create your own charts. So if your fishing the same waters all the time as you run around you'll be creating your own detailed charts... That's a great way to mark structure. Look like this unit has wifi too... That comes in handy for map updates as well as being able to make waypoints and routes on your phone and transfer them to your plotter and visa versa.. Might be overkill for a 12 foot boat but you get a lot more map functionality if that's important to you... |
Re: Fish Finder Rec
Gerry is right. Get the combinations if you're using a 5 inch screen.
Also 5 inch screen is large for small boats like ours. A second 5 inch screen for Plotter/Gps takes up too much room QUOTE=Gerry Zagorski;508287]You can't go wrong with Garmin... Re: Fish Finder Rec
Joe, I have been trying to help a friend sell some of his fishing stuff as he has medical problems and feels he can't fish any longer. In this stuff is a Lowrance X-4 Pro unit, still in the plastic. Quite honestly, it looks like it may have been under water?
If you are near the Middletown/Red Bank area and your son wants the unit, he can have it. Always happy to help a kid starting out. PM me for my address. |
