Blackfish Fluorocarbon Leader?
I hope everyone had a Merry Christmas and looking forward to the new year.
Traditionally I have used 40-50lb mono leader for my blackfish snells, but I am hearing a lot of people suggesting Fluoro for the snells. I was always under the impression that blackfish are not leader shy but I have seen some guys with fluoro producing a little better recently and swearing by it. I do use Seaguar Fluoro in 60lb & 80lb on tuna and pelagics but what is the brand of choice for blackfish? PLEASE VOTE IN THE POLL ON TOP OF PAGE. |
Re: Blackfish Fluorocarbon Leader?
It's stiffer and more abrasion resistant vs mono. Those are the primary differences. Oh...and it's like 4x more expensive lol.

The cheapest floro you can buy and red hooks

Re: Blackfish Fluorocarbon Leader?
2 reasons to use floro in my opinion... 1) It resists abrasion better then mono and 2) it's stiffer which keeps your hooks away from and riding back on your line and tangling in it.
Having said this, I use floro on the hook leaders only and my shock leader is regular mono. Some people are using 60, I'm using 50... |

Not sure if brand really matters all that much, never really paid that much attention to it. |
Re: Blackfish Fluorocarbon Leader?
Contrary to popular belief fluoro is not always more abrasion resistant then mono . Definitely not so with hard type monos , and true hard type leader material is stiffer then ordinary mono and stiffer then fluoro .
Using it for tog may make a difference but not necessary in my opinion . Good quality leader material, or fluoro ur choice . I use both but oddly enough most of my big fish taken on standard leader material |
