Flukin the Upper Shrews

The upper Shrewsbury did not disappoint on opening week for fluke. First decent day to get out yesterday. Tide and wind were certainly not cooperative but the fluke were. Got 8 keepers on the wonder rig including this really nice 26 inch, 7 pounder! I would have bet $1000 that I had a big bluefish on when this fish hit - took line and started screaming out away from the boat. Then it got real 'flukey' and settled in to a slow, steady retrieve.
For all of you nay-sayers out there - Gamakatsu #4 (not 4/0) octopus hook right in the corner of the mouth!

Awesome catch congrats. I was there crabbing in the wind on Friday. I even brought along my fluking poles but I thought it was too windy to even try. Maybe I should have.

That's a beauty! If any of you want to see someone slay fluke in the back bay watch arbutis' wonder rig videos on YouTube. He knows what he's doing.

Doug....Nice job. Great river jumbo. Three trips and 3 double limits for my partner an I in the river using the wonder rig. Two 5 lb fish so far. 5 of the fish caught jigging but most on the W rig. I tell many......elephants eat peanuts.
Thanks again for sharing this method. I get a lot of snickers. We can only try to lead the horses to the water.

As already said, it's cake to tie up. Just get the right components. Pretty simple really. Most people don't follow the instructions or make modifications usually to the bucktail or the hook size and type. Big fluke can be caught using small hooks - key point.
