Drone Catches Striper from Surf -VIDEO
What do you do when you're surf fishing and the birds, bait and fish are just too far out to reach with a cast? Well, you go Drone Surf Fishing!
I fly that sucker out about 1200 feet and plunk my plug right in the middle of a feed with deadly accuracy. Drop if from the Drone and land myself a nice fall striper from the beach. Check out my video (I think I'm on to something here): Drone Catches Striper Video |

Re: Drone Catches Striper from Surf
Very cool. I've been wondering when the Drone idea was going to hit the boards. I have a feeling in the next couple of years there will be a whole lot more Drones out there. From inshore to offshore. I just hope the guy operating the Drone and the guy driving the boat are not the same guy.

Re: Drone Catches Striper from Surf
That's a cool video. Thanks for the upload...drone fishing is gaining popularity world-wide. I have one from "down under" going for longtail tuna.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?... click on "Jaiden MacLean" under "subscriptions" on left side---should take you to it... Not trying to hi-jack...Beach drone fishing is just an interesting technique. Sometimes they're just too far out to reach casting. Just gotta know what you're doing with a drone, could get expensive... |

So I was lucky enough to return to the beach the next morning with the intent to capture a strike on video - and I did. After about 6 casts out to 1200 feet over working birds, I got a good hookup using the spoon. So for your entertainment I spliced in the spoon strike into the previous video - that's why there are two videos now. Hope that explains it. A little movie magic. To answer some other questions, the drone is a Phantom 3 Advanced. The ones on sale for around $400 are the P3 Standard edition. Some minor differences but for fishing, the Standard would work well I'm sure. It takes some time to get comfortable with the flight controls so practice over land first. No crazy dog or wife in this video. Ha. Got a striper though - finally! I'll be thinking of some new fishing uses for the drone - If anyone has any ideas or would like to see a video trying something else, let me know. I'd love to dangle a live bunker above a blitz and film that. We'll see. |

Re: Drone Catches Striper from Surf
nicely done. great footage! guess you have to watch for passing boats. all that line tangled around a prop would not be good for either of you!

Re: Drone Catches Striper from Surf -VIDEO
1200 feet? That's quite a large reel to carry enough line? 500 yards?

Re: Drone Catches Striper from Surf
BETTER YET.. Replaces your tuna tower with that baby. Can even look inside the neigbhors' boats looking for bloody decks offshore
|
Re: Drone Catches Striper from Surf
Don't get the aquadrone. Horrible system and expensive. No reason not to get a basic DJI or other drone with GPS return.

If you watch the video, there's a distance meter in the bottom of the drone screen. I drop the lure at just about 1200 ft out in this one. |
Re: Drone Catches Striper from Surf
Doug - You never cease to amaze me. Outside the box thinking is one thing but having the energy and passion to experiment and document it is another. Thanks for sharing this here and I look forward to seeing more of it. Well done!!
