Sunday I hope to get out onto the water.
Still haven't decided on a location and target. I'll have to follow my bliss.

they WEREN'T bad last weekend where we waded, but no promises after the rain and more wind. you can always beat the leaves with a float and fly rig or something similar.

Millstone River carping and ultralight jigging. I caught 3,008 fish in 221 NJ fresh water fishing trips this year. Last week was good in a beaver pond a mile from my house in Central Jersey. Caught and released largemouth bass to 16", black crappies to 9.5" and bluegills to 8.5" with a 1/32 oz jig on 2 lb test line. Water temp was only 52 degrees in the cold rain yesterday. The fish will stop chasing lures soon in most of my spots.

I think I may try round valley shore fishing tomorrow for my first time. Is there anything specific I am going to need? I'm going to try for some big trout. Will I need live bait or will artificial lures and baits work? Also I'm assuming I should bring my medium rod with 8# test? My other rod has 4# test on it.

Any tips would be appreciated!

Either rod will work. Bring both. I'd try spinners (Mepps, Vibrax, Panther Martin), spoons (Kastmaster, smaller Krocs, Phoebes, etc.) and Rapalas from shore if you are looking for trout. I'm not sure if herring are still available. I got some a couple of weeks ago but the owner said that would dry up soon. It can't hurt to throw out a shiner or herring on a slip bobber on one of your rods. Or maybe even a Power Bait. And cast with the other.

Ask the guys at the Round Valley Fishing page on Facebook.
I would guess the shore anglers are using a mix of live shiners and power bait. A few intrepid anglers will be throwing lures.

Thanks Eskimo. I will definitely do that.

I have Berkeley power bait grubs that seem to work on my lake not only for trout but bass and pickerel...so I could try that on a jig and see how well that does.

Time of day matters too. As does boat traffic

Still Trying to chase those walleye before the year ends - Targeting areas on the Delaware River and exploring more of the river in NJ on my new kayak.

Went on such a trip a few days ago. No walleye but got a few smallmouth bass, a pickerel and lost two medium mystery fish that could have been walleye for all i know. They were not tiny!

Walleye are bound to start biting soon in the river.
Last week went for blackfish for the first time off a jetty in central NJ and got a few keepers. Crossed that one off the list first try. If only walleye were that simple.

Sat., tried wading RVR’s eastern shore. Kept sinking shin deep in sediment & rooted aquatic veg. fouled the lure. Won’t be going back there this winter.

On the southern shore there was a blue cooler filled with half rotted food: bread, crackers, cheese, etc. Perhaps, campers tired of dragging, abandoned it. I alerted RVR Parks.

They've been hitting since early May right up until the recent mix of confusing fronts. Actually live baited one for the first time a few weeks back. NJ river I fish is LOADED with emerald shiners, mosquito fish, gills, rock bass, perch, commons, chubs, shads, suckers, etc. so the eyes have quite the selection this time of yr.

Re: Who's fishing this wknd and what's your target?

That sounds like fun Jigman. I'm sure I'll eventually find a spot like that too :D
During that last walleye trip I found a big school of 100+ creek chubs just chilling next to some rapids. Nothing was hunting them and surrounding water and deeper pools seemed devoid of life. Maybe the walleye go up to feed on them at night or the chubs spread out into the deeper water at night.
