I just spoke with an official @ Mansqn. Res.
You can still fish. The advisory is to not eat the fish, avoid contact & do not let pets drink the water: http://co.monmouth.nj.us/documents/1...ct%20Sheet.pdf |

I just got back from fishing Manasquan this morning. Right now the Ranger told me it's business as usual until they are told different. They do warn you not to keep the fish, and to make sure you clean everything that has contact with the water. BTW... The bite was great this morning, I hit 2 of my spot's before work, and caught some decent LM, and a couple Smallies. So yes, they are open for fishing, but i would still call the ranger office before you go, maybe it will change by tomorrow, who know's.

Bet the hybrid fishing in there is insane. Healthy stocking and you never hear about people fishing there much for them. The electric only thing prob keeps the pressure down on them as trolling is an ideal way to target them. Additionally, getting herring there seems like it'd be a major chore!

NJDF&W had a lot of input as to structure in the res.: cabled down piles of trees, stump fields, pea sized gravel areas for spawning, standing timber for snakes & bird perches (good fish structure, too). Depth / structure map: http://www.state.nj.us/dep/fgw/pdf/lakes/manasquan.pdf (enlarge to see depth numbers, etc.) The first fish we stocked were Alewife Herring. Two years later, we sampled with gill nets & captured some of the largest landlocked Alewives we have ever seen. Too bad Monmouth Co. does not allow fishing after dark. In the past, have tried to get them to do so, but have had no luck. As you aware, they are very safety conscious. No wade fishing allowed. Perhaps, pressure from interested anglers through The New Jersey State Federation of Sportsmen’s Clubs http://www.njsfsc.org/ might work. Maybe a limited number of night permits. |

Maybe the residents of Central/Southern NJ are too cool for Hybrids, they only want true strain Stripahs .
