Trout persistence pays offs!!

5 Attachment(s)
So since Thanksgiving, I've been out 3 days with no luck. Powerbait, trout magnet and spinners. Today I woke up and there was a solid wind, but thought screw it, you were out yesterday in the rain, why not?! Good thing I did. I got there and decided to throw on the ol' neoprenes to get a little more distance. Started throwing my troat magnet to no luck with a line with powerbait on not getting any action. Decided to take em both in and throw a spinner around and it paid off!! 6 hooked and 4 landed. All beautiful fish with 3 being 15'' and 1 16" and all very thick. Wasn't expecting much of a fight from what I've heard, but they were a ton of fun on the ultra light. Released 3 of them and kept 1 to eat and enjoy the fruits of my labor a little longer. Thanks for all the help guys and see you soon.

Congrats! I am still haven't broken my trout skunk, I have fished Echo Lake almost every day since the winter stock and have yet to get even a nibble. At first I was just using spinners but after seeing the power bait crew pulling in Trout left and right I broke down and bought a cheap medium-light rod and reel from Walmart and started fishing power bait on a slip rig with the new pole while casting spinners with the other. Despite doubling my fish catching potential I have still had no luck. Have covered just about entire lower lake and some of middle lake at this point and I wouldn't be surprised if only 50 or so of the original 160 are still out there for me to catch...I am not ready to give up yet...

Yeah I know what you mean. Lake like that probably gets emptied quick. I know many limits upon limits have been taken day after day right where I was, but I'm sure there are some left. Keep trying!

Congrats on a fine outing !!! And Logs22, maybe try some rivers and streams if the lake doesn't give up the goods.

I would much prefer to be fishing the Raritan or another river but it's just a question of time. Echo lake is less than 5 minutes from my house and maybe more importantly it's between my house and Rt. 22, where my wife sends me to run most of our errands. Accordingly, my fishing excursions are actually (as far as my wife knows) trips to Home Depot or Babies R Us for diapers. I must have the worst luck though because whenever I am out running errands there is inevitably a long checkout line, road construction, flat tire.:..you get the picture. I get my fishing in when I can, and it's usually during borrowed (stolen) 20-40 minute windows. Last Sunday when weather was gorgeous and wife was in city for day my son and I did get to spend 3 hours fishing. God bless him he slept soundly in the stroller for 2 hours straight while I fished unsuccessfully for trout next to him. Oh well, maybe this weekend I can find the time to venture further afield in pursuit of some trout!
