Newark water Shed

Hey whats up guys, first post here. Anyone have good experience fishing the Newark water shed? I went to Clinton yesterday and only caught one small mouth. I know the weather was not helping but I felt like there was no action there at all. Anyone know if the other bodies of water there are more productive? Water level was extremely low.

They are all productive, you just have to put your time in learning them as they are not like most lakes and ponds.

Just my 2 cents worth Raggs..But I's say they Newark watershed impoundments are as good as any lakes in NJ..But you didn't pick the best time of year to try them out...Variety of game fish ranks pretty high in my book, with the chance of some really nice smallies, LMB and Walleyes, and even a shot at lunker trout..Suggest you start next spring with a fresh attitude..One good tip, learn to fish deep water..You will be re
warded..TITE LINES

.

I wouldn't know. I'm banned from there because I'm a kayaker.

I'm planning a protest. Kayactivists unite!

No, but I caught a decent medium sized large mouth at Branch Brook Park in Newark with a weedless spoon and little trailer grub. A little one jumped in the air and wiggled off the rooster tail. A few interesting looking characters with pit bulls told me I looked like I was a long way from home. Nice park.

Thanks for the advise, yes I have fished there in the spring and fall and I have killed it before but I was just odd how I only caught one that day. I know it must have been the weather conditions. Cant wait till it cools off a bit.

Agreed, It was sunny and very hot that day. I like the over cast and cool temps.

I had a similar experience fishing in Weequahic Park/Lake about ten years ago when I had just moved to Cranford/Union County and had no idea where to fish. A friend was visiting and wanted to go fishing so I took him to the only body of water I knew of nearby...the lake off rt. 22 that I saw every day during my bus commute to the city. We received a lot of interesting comments and saw lots of shady dealings, but did manage to hook one nice sized catfish.

A lot of pressure on those reservoirs. Try using a fluorocarbon leader if you are not already doing so. The deeper water tip was spot on just make sure that the fish are handled properly & vented if needed...have seen way too many bloaters & floaters this year & have saved many fish that would have been turtle food
