Warmwater / Coolwater Survey

DFW looking for input from NJ's freshwater fishermen

http://www.njfishandwildlife.com/new..._fisheries.htm

Quote:

The NJDEP Division of Fish and Wildlife is seeking angler input on WARMWATER and COOLWATER fishing experiences in New Jersey through an online survey. The survey takes about 20 minutes to complete and includes questions on species preferences, waterbody success, fishing tournaments and angler opinions on fishing opportunities for species such as Largemouth Bass, Muskellunge, Walleye, Channel Catfish and Hybrid Striped Bass.

Unlike previous surveys, this survey is specifically designed to account for varying levels of fishing interests and experience. No matter if you are the occasional angler fishing just a couple times a year or the hard core fishing fanatic this survey is for you! Angler input at all levels of fishing interest and experience is important!
it didn't actually take 20 minutes to complete, was shorter than that

I'll do it at home because I don't have my fishing license at work.
(I may not stick around here all day if I did bring my license to work :) )

If they are open to recommendations, I'm going to suggest raising the minimum size to harvest a bass to 15 inches.

For anyone on the fence about doing the survey, it pretty much asks you to rate your favorite species to target, then asks you questions on your top 3 choices, followed by Bass questions. 100 questions about, took me 20-25 minutes to complete.

Angler feedback is the only way you will see the changes you want made!

Okay, I'm done.
I gave a shout-out to njfishing.com when they asked:

67. What is your PRIMARY source of information concerning fishing OPPORTUNITIES (place to go, species to fish for etc) in New Jersey?

Re: Warmwater / Coolwater Survey

The one question it missed, or I may have missed it was about bag and size limits for bass. I think most of the other limits were reasonable, but I think the bag limit for bass should be reduced to two. I know some people want to see the smaller fish taken to increase the number of trophy fish, but I'd like the size limit increased to at least 14". Give the little guys a chance to grow too. Too many waters these days produce plenty of bass in the 12" range but little beyond that.

i don't think there was a "bag limit reduction" option for any of the species management questions. They were only concerned about size limits.

The survey only asked something like, "which lakes would you like to see the Lunker Regulations applied to?".

I wrote in Spruce Run, because of the very high fishing pressure.

Njfishing.com members...

In addition to all of the great feedback already received I would like to ask everyone to take this survey. All of this feedback will go back to Craig Lemon, the cool and warm water hatchery superintendent (i.e. the decision maker at the Hackettstown hatchery).

I think it is important for all members of NJ's fishing public to take this survey. It really concentrates on the experienced angler and the species such as muskellunge, walleye, hybrid stripers, northerns and channels. Many Division surveys in the past ask a few questions in the beginning and one is quickly shuffled into a total trout survey.

It is very important to have as many people as possible take this survey. Craig is a friend of mine and of all of us indirectly so I ask that we all please take the survey in addition to continuing to add to this thread with additional comments. Tell it like it is... your wants, likes, dislikes, everything.... Every request may not happen but at least the feedback is getting back to the right person, I guarantee it...

Andy - If we can make this a sticky I would be appreciative...

Took the survey. One thing I would of like say that was not ask. I think fishing licenses should run 1 year From date of purchase. I think this would be better for fish and game and for the people. I know myself I am thinking about buying a pa license but the year is half over so maybe I wont, if it would take me into next spring I would and then because I was fishing in pa next spring I would probably by one to continue. Does this make sense or am I missing something? Seems like it would be a win win for everyone. The way it is just give a reason to not buy a license and that doesn't promote fishing.

New york state just went to this system. Before the license year ended at the end of September which sucked for the guys salmon and steelheading, now doesn't matter when you buy it is valid for one full year

Took the survey, ripped 'em a new one over these stupid bass tournaments. Interesting question was about walleye in the Raritan river ! Asked them where all the pike stocked in the Millstone river went.
