Bucktailboys & MVP Mass Monsters up to 15 LBS!!!

Let me first start out by saying... What A TRIP!!

We left Saturday night at 10pm and arrived at the boat at about 3am sunday morning. After stretching the legs a bit we tried to sleep but that was stopped by a swarm of people showing up at about 4am to line up for their spots.. First come First Serve.

Our Group was as follows; Keefe, JP, Jerry, Joe, Paul, Dr. Pete, Gabe, Vic (as well as Alex(MVP)

Sunday- we started heading out to the back end of Nantucket island with a 2 hour ride but well worth it! We slammed the fluke Keeping 41 fluke over 3 lbs and 5 jumbo seabass! Sunday was the day of Quantity.

Sunday night- went to a local place that Matt the mate told us about. The owner Tim cooked us up a ton of our fresh fluke 3 different styles with all different sides family style. Just Amazing!

Than came Monday- Quality over Quantity today! First drop..Bam!! Bucktailboy Joe nailed a 14.9lb(which is the monster that I was holding in my pic) and Bucktailboy Paul nailed a 12pounder right in the same spot!! Both fish would have taken the pool but those two never contributed! Keefe almost had a DD with a 9.9lb. Vic had about a 13lber at the boat but the Mate dropped it as he was lifting it up with the gaff!!! Could not believe it! 32 keeper fluke on day two but just amazing size with most fish over 5lbs.

Folks, I am not joking about the sizes of the fish! I have others on the boat that can attest to the size!!

MVP-- he cleaned up both days with monster fish!

Palmers, John(tonys brother)-- we had a great time with john and his buddys in the front of the boat!! SOMEONE GET THE CAMARA!! MATE!!! CAMARA!!! Those guys also cleaned up!!

Bucktails-- Def. worked as the bucktailboys and John palmers team crushed the fluke day one with the tails!

Dragging Bait--the majority of the fish on the boat (about 300 keeper fluke per day) we picked up on huge pieces of bait. on day two the current was rippin and we were drifting 10 oz bucktails but mostly bait with 14-24oz of lead!

NOTE- we are going to have a private 30 man charter on the same boat next year. The cost will be a bit higher but well worth it.. Layover at night on Nantucket Island so we are right on the fishing grounds. 2 days of awesome fishing. We are accepting requests for anyone who may want to be put on this list as I am sure the Bucktailboys, Johnny Palmers and MVP's group will need a couple of additional spots to be filled. Please let us know!

Thank you guys for the memories.

JP

Great job!

Last year on a three day trip out of Montauk we had to stay inshore due to weather we fished a couple of days in this area water as I recall 50/90' with good currents .

You can add my name to the list please. I'm heading up there on the Helen H August 14th. Did you mention boarding is fist come first serve?

Any recommendations would be welcomed. I imagine 6/0 bait holders for dragging bait?

Gulp necessary?

Glad you guys had a great trip

Very nice fish! What pound leader were you guys using for that trip?

Re: Bucktailboys & MVP Mass Monsters up to 15 LBS!!!

Started out with 25 lb but waiting for the mates to gaff was a challenge so I lost a couple of 3-4 pound fish trying to swing them in. Went to 40 and was fine...used fluorocarbon.

25 is just way under kill there. Swinging 4 pounders into that bow is not easy no matter what your leader is. It's a long way to the top if you wanna rock n roll

Gang i had great reviews from my brother jon and his crew as they fished next to keefe and his gang...of course Jon was using my stuff and the round head jigs 8 oz. and 1.5 up top on a dropper worked for him and his gang ....jon is a die hard jig and gulp fisherman and he will live or die using that method.
He nailed 15 keepers the first day to 9 lbs. and 15 the second to 8 lbs
Keefe and his crew nailed jumbo fluke to 15+ lbs. using the bait and cannonball sinker method along with bucktails from bucktail boys...The description from both crews can't really describe the banner fluking up there ..it is monster heaven and the crew and captain are top notch and put you in a position to catch a fish of a lifetime every trip out...
I on the other hand was fluking in long island on the Hampton Lady and managed a great day with 7 keeper fluke to 7.5 lbs and a load of seabass to 5 lbs.---great day for me BUT KEEFE I'M IN FOR NEXT YEARS TRIP ----PUT ME ON THE LIST!!!!
Keefe wa impressed with the quality and catching ability of our round head jigs and keefe and I are working out the details for BUCKTAIL BOYS to carry Palmers Tackle Round head Jigs--designed for GULP use...More to come on that...soon!
Jon did mention he liked the cannon ball two dropper loop NY method of fluking as Keefe and crew managed a 15 lb fish....Now he wants me to make chrome cannon balls for him---thanks, keefe i don't have enough to do! LOL!!
My pic from the Hampton Lady below--even got bloody!

Bring your own net because it is a shame when a 13lber gets killed and lost.
