Jig Question
For all manufacturers or sellers: Is there any reason for a hook on a 47 or 67 jig to straighten out with a drag loosely set for only 20lb line?

Re: Jig Question
It's a brass hook.

Re: Jig Question
Unless it is a really thin hook the line should pop before the hook bends
|
Re: Jig Question
Unless there's something I'm not understanding, which happens frequently, the hook attached to a 27 or 47 should not bend under pressure with 20 lb line. Otherwise it shouldn't be on there. These are store bought, not some parking lot guy or off the internet.

Re: Jig Question
20 lb braid or mono?

Re: Jig Question
Could be just a flaw in that hook or batch of hook you are using..Duritin hooks ( silver ones ) will bend before they break. But under the conditions you describe, I would say a flaw in the hook or hooks.

Re: Jig Question
Mono and there must be a whole lotta flaws goin' on. Been happening from many different sources for years. I've been swapping them out for the most part lately.

when you see a 4 oz jig--A-47 selling for $5.00 its Chinese and now korean junk--either that or the seller is an idiot If you use the right size mustad hook it won't straighten out..I have never had a failure in 12 yrs of jig making..i also use VMC,Gamakatsu, and Owner to get a better hook. Now if you fish a time or two and don't wash off the jig and just stick it back inbto your tackle bag/box the hook will rust and bend/break..if it's new it should never react that way there are several stores stocking jigs that look like mine that have cheap chinese garbage hooks --Kills me when i try to sell one of my jigs and i hear oh these jigs suck because the hooks suck..When i didn't make the junk ...Sellers kill a whole line of products for the rest of us for a $.50 -$1.00 hook depending on whether it has tubing ot not |
Re: Jig Question
Sounds like a poor quality or defected hook. I've had this problem in the past and my solution is to buy the avas without hooks from your local US tackle shop. All you have to do is add the hook and tube color of your choice. Quality product and cheaper than most store bought crap.
