Gr8 poll Andy !! Wish i coulda voted fer more than one specie...Had a hard time deciding on my favorite as i actively fish for most of those fish throughout the season and the hybrids fight the hardest lb. fer lb....It was tough to not choose hybrids:cool:
Big native river smallies that tend to top out at around20-23" but i've witnessed 25-27"ers....couldn't leave out the almight river snallie

RAHWAY RIVER STEELHEAD!!! Yea BUDDY!!! I can't choose just one species because I fish for everything. I'd like to say that all the fish mentioned are my favorite. Can't get enough fishing in no matter what it's for.

TIGHT LINEZ!!!

Re: Favorite freshwater fish:

I had to go with bass because probably 80 percent of the time I'm fishing it is bass that I'm after. Trout would be my second choice. Outside very rare catfishing days (maybe once every year or two), those are the only two species that I specifically target. Anything else I catch by accident.

Andy...Stop voting for Trout just so they don't lose to Bass! :D

Nice delaware native!!!:D

There have been lots of studies on the delaware native rainbows and suprisingly they pretty much top out at about 20-22" before their lifespan is up...of course there are a few acceptions to that rule...>From what i here there lifespan is not as long as ur average trout because they migrate soooo many miles of river on a yearly basis up there....I caught a 20"er in late october last yr above the lordville bridge, then came back to jersey and got a 29"er in november...Go figure, but the jersey fish was no native....

Re: Favorite freshwater fish:

Smallies are my favorite after catching more last year than I did my entire fishing life. Although the drag testing fight put up by Hybrid Striped Bass is always welcomed.

Big Browns. Nothing like the fight of a giant trout on an ultra light rod in with 4# test in high waters. Northerns on light tackle a close second.

I got a 27", 9-1/2 lb bow in Delaware area a couple years back. 15 minute fight on 4# test. Could not believe I got it in.

When I voted for Bass I meant Smallmouth.... Nothing like seeing a Smallie leap out of the water, turn sideways and start taking more drag. Got me itchin to head up to the 1000 Islands this summer. The place is practically poluted with Smallies.

Big fish...where exactly have you witnessed a 27 " smallmouth bass at?

I only ask because that's the length of the world record caught in 1955 out of Dale Hollow Lake.

Want a gps location? good luck....Have witnessed them rite here in NJ....
I understand the world record was that long but you gotta remember most river bass don't get anywhere near the gut that a lake smallie will....I've caught lake smallies that were shorter and weighed more than river smallies that were longer....But i love the fight and stealth of them river monsters....

Hope that answers ur question ...Not goin into ANY location details other than NJ.
Get out and find em

All types and whatever bites. I like fishing period. I've had lazy days just sitting on a rock or log for hrs waiting for carp or channel cat to take my bait and not so lazy days of hiking ten miles in the mountains fishing for wild trout. Depends upon my mood.

I am kinda surprised there's not more votes for shad, they're fun fish. I voted pike, but I know a family member who would choose shad over any other fish. He catches 30 fish a day when they're running, making it hard to not go along, but I've never had 30 shad in a day.

A 21" smb is a beast of a smallie anywhere in the country. I fish a lot of good water including the north branch of the Susquehanna river and that fish is right up with any hog pulled out of there. It's also probably a 10+ yr old bass as it takes a long time for a smb in this part of the country to reach that length. A 27" smb in this part or anywhere in the world would be such a genetic freak that the odds of one being here (while possible) are probably 1 in a billion. But I would love to eat my words and see pictures of one if you have caught one. Have a great season!
