SHUCKER's RARITAN RIVER WALLEYE 3/10

Met Shucker on the river today to see if anything was lurking in the high, stained R.R. Started casting big plugs looking for maybe a Tiger, Walleye or whatever else may be in the depths. Shucker is jigging his hand tied arsenal next to the wall and sure enough gets slammed. Fish comes to the top and he yells Walleye. I run down to help him land this fish. After a little battle in the current the Eye comes in easily onto the rocks. A few pics of the fish and back into the MIGHTY RARITAN she went. Fish was somewhere around 24 inches and fat, easily a 5lb fish. Good to see you out there buddy, great catch!!! And so it begins................................:D

Not for nothing... With all the trout being stocked in the Raritan this Spring that river will be hammered. Won't be long until the meat hunters are walking out with Striper's, Walleye and Trout on the stringer. I know they pay for their licenses too but it was nice when that place was low key. It's going to be an all out zoo down there soon! "Better get there early Eddie". Just my thought's I could be wrong. Wouldn't be the first time. Nice fish by the way.

If that's the case, hopefully it leads to more F&G patrols and the poachers gettin' what they deserve!

It was hammered with anglers last year. I'm not worried about it at all. More donations by more anglers = more free lures in my box. Love angler pressure!!! Bring it on!!!

I used to go there on my lunch hour last year and sometimes I'd see 6 guys fishing that spot on a TUESDAY. Ridiculous. It's kind of hard to keep a spot on the DL here in NJ, but when there's lots of posts, places get packed real quick. Every person I met there said "well I'm on NJF but I don't post." Every one of them. Keep that in mind. For every one person posting there are 100 waiting to have you do all their homework. That's why I don't post reports on here. Last thing I need is another South Bound Brook or a Passaic River at my fishing holes.

Shucker is becoming the king of RR 'eyes. Last fall I had fished that river the entire afternoon with nothing bigger than a stockie brook trout, and Shucker shows up at Duke falls and nails a nice 20" walleye in about ten minutes! RIGHT NEXT TO ME!

Good fish, man! Keep 'em coming!

Pressure is hard to avoid in NJ! Keep the your opinions comin. I enjoy laughing at them. BLAH, BLAH, BLAH!!!!

Let me just send the world to Furnace and Moutain with 1 group text. I still catch plenty of Pike in the Passaic. I don't see a problem anywhere.

TIGHT LINEZ!!!!!!

Pressure is definitely hard to avoid. Mountain and Furnace will always get pounded, but fortunately most people can't catch muskies and give up quickly enough.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, and not everyone likes to be completely overcrowded when they're fishing. Jrock shared a shore spot for catching walleye at night on Greenwood a year ago and there were 20 guys there the next night.

I know you have your spots that you don't share with everyone, as does everyone else on this board. I'm not looking to get another thread locked for a spot burning argument, but I'm just saying that people should be aware that not everyone on here is looking to give input and there are way more people lurking to hop on a good bite.

I could walk out onto Pompton Lake any day in the winter a couple years ago and at most see 5 other people out there. Word got around and there were days that there were 30 people out there. Let's see how the fishing goes there over the next few years. And let's see how well the Passaic pike population holds up in 5 years now that it gets 1,000x more fishing pressure. Maybe people have figured out that you can walk onto Pines Lake without knowing anyone and most likely not get bothered by anyone. It's all fun and games until fishing access gets closed down or the bucket brigade takes every damn fish and there are no more left.

x2 on ur longer posts...I have preached some of the same and only get the cold shoulder about it....We all love fish porn and reports are awesome!!! I love em..
A section called lake/river x reports would be a gr8 addition to this site...I love how many NY res fisherman understand this concept to the fullest and even black out backgrounds in their photos....But how do stop free speech???
Some ppl wont get it until there favorite awesome spots start to suck, like a few of mine have over the last 2-5 yrs....

I will never tell ppl to stop there entusiasm for the sport by not posting reports...
\Like i said , I love em...Just try to occasionally protect ur waters from the ALL seeing eye...

Re: SHUCKER's RARITAN RIVER WALLEYE 3/10

Hey and if you like fishing pressure so much, how about we have an ice fishing contest? I'll fish one of the private lakes I go to that has no fishing pressure, and you can fish Budd Lake that gets all the pressure in the world. Total number of inches of fish, regardless of species. Hell, we can even make it a fun and put up $10,000 each, winner takes all.:D

You're one of my favorite people on here Eddie, but probably the only one I know that likes to have their spots blown up.

You're exactly right. There are other local message boards that respect this, and although some people on this board bash them, it's hard to ignore that they have a ton more users.

Re: SHUCKER's RARITAN RIVER WALLEYE 3/10

I see both sides of the discussion. I never gave people info let alone reports on a website until this year. I will say that I was apprehensive about giving out techniques, fish totals, and fish locations. I have met some good guys who I trust and have given and will give info to them but I personally won't post any specifics anymore in public.......there are a TON of lurkers here who do not add anything to the site. They just try to get info to make their fishing life easy. I feel like, why should I have put in YEARS of time on the water to have some guy come here and take my hard work and get on the bite with relative ease. My grand father taught me the rules and I broke them....lol. Hell, when we would pull into the ramp at RVR my grandfather would tell me exactly what to say when someone would ask how we did......these were the "lurkers" pre-internet days. That guy who started Hunterdon Anglers (the one you had to take an oath to share all your secrets LMAO) would wait at the ramp for my grandfather and expect him to tell him what he was catching fish on......dudes a creep.
On the other hand I love the brotherhood of anglers on this site and I am glad I'm here reading some awesome reports by some great fishermen. The guys who do post reports here are putting in work. Whats the point of posting a report without some specifics.....anyways my 2 cents. Carry on.

Great stuff ! I can't thank the guys enough for posting the fish photos and locations on the Raritan river. New light has been shed on this river now and it can only get better, heck, you guys made New Jersey Fish and Game sit up and take notice. Remember FE and I went to the Fish and Game Council meeting to talk about the Raritan river and what a great fishery it is. Standing on that wall you are fishing 1/2 of 1% of that river. I remember seeing that river flow a different color for each day of the week, now look at it. Hope it continues to grow in popularity as I will be buy a drift boat and take people down the river, there is already a charter buisness on the South Branch of the Raritan river. Looking forward to doing more work with the folks from Rutgers this spring and doing more clean up work on the river to boot !

The Lawrence Brook, a tributary of the Raritan River in New Jersey, is impounded currently by multiple dams, preventing upstream passage for fish. Following an educational presentation about the serious depletion of herring and other Atlantic fish the Lawrence Brook Watershed Partnership applied to the NY-NJ Harbor Estuary Program (NY-NJ HEP) and was awarded a grant of $47,000 for a partial feasibility study for fish ladders around the lowest two dams on the Lawrence Brook, the Westons Mill Dam and the Westons Arch Dam.

I also contacted the US Fish and Wildlife Service to question why the Island Farm Fish Weir has only 11 inch slots and there are big fish that can not use the passage. Maybe some day soon that waterfall will be gone, they built a fish ladder for a 4 foot high dam.

Gentlemen,

I'd like to REMIND everyone that this thread is Shucker's Raritan River Walleye 3/10.

If you have something to say...Why would you not create a new thread about fishing opinions, "Spot Burning", etc..?

Taking away from a great CATCH is juvenile, don't you think?

Re: SHUCKER's RARITAN RIVER WALLEYE 3/10

Nice fish Shucker.....great way for you to start out and also for alot of guys on here this year so far.....I think this could be one of those gems or a year if it keeps up the way it's been going......... it's a shame that a good post has been totally taken off track.......seems to be the trend on this board lately and that's my observation and have discussed this with others who have been here for a minute....you all know what happens when a secret society comes into town, they usually get run outta town fast.......How about just keeping this board strictly to fishing and being supportive to others, is it really that hard to do.......I think not........If you don't like someone's post, don't read it...........go back and read the past month or so posting and you'll see alot of them are so childish and immature..........people saying they miss getting their balls busted, liking when their spots are blown up,c'mon are you serious or what?...that's prob the funniest thing I have ever seen posted in my life..............bottom line, no one is that good on here...............and for you internet tough guys are exactly that, cowards that hide behind a keyboard...I bet you'd run like a b@tch if you ever bumped into someone you mouthed off to on the water or at a boat ramp........I've seen it happen!!!!!!............some of you think you are fish and game officers, police officers, and game wardens , well news flash, you're not...If someone does something differently than you do, send them a private message and offer your suggestion ....but to call someone out on a board.....Geez!!!.............let's get back to fishing, the season is about to start.......................90% of the guys on this board are reading these posts and going to he 'hot spot' that's been in the next few days......and by that I mean the ones that NEVER post......

P.S. ....Sorry for my rant this early, but this post that started off great with a nice fish caught, went downhill really fast and that is not fair to Shucker.......Lately this board has more drama and personalities than the Real Housewives of NJ........I'm gonna sit back and lurk .....I'm done giving my spots away.......what do I get out of it?.....Private messages from IDIOTS telling me how to hold a fish and to stick to bass fishing and cooking..or this is even better:...Hey Mitch, nice fish!!...Where'd you get it and what bait?......REALLY!!!!!!!!!!!..Not a "Hey maybe we can fish together sometime or introduce themselves".........REALLY!!!!!..Good luck w/ that!!!..Are some of you guys too good to say something nice about someone else's post?....what that all about, your pride gets in the way?......
I've NEVER been negative towards anyone, always giving support even for the guy who posts a sunnie..Always been that way............some of you guys need to seriously get over your selves already...........Oooops, Sorry, we all know you 'elitists' are all that, How could I forget....Can you feel my sarcasm, cause I'm laying it on really THICK!!!..........Did I make my point LOUD AND CLEAR...........nice seeing you guys!!!

This board has turned into the same 4 guys posting.......I understand it's winter and ice fishing isn't for everyone, but the comments are from the same cast of characters......doesn't that say it all right there.....there are 100 guys watching everything that is going on on a daily basis....

I'll end this on a positive....Hope everyone has a decent year ahead!!!!....FISH ON(ALWAYS!!!)

shucker 03-11-2014 08:22 AM

Thanks for all the compliments guys, this winter has been a bear it was great to finally get something decent. As for the spot burning... who cares.Fishing a highly pressured area forces you to become a better fishermen.Private lakes and the permit only lakes is like shooting fish in a barrel.Funny chit guys.
