Swimbait Mirror Carp
Dusted the cobwebs off my rods and hit the open water with FastEddie today. Drowned shiners and casted plugs in a few different spots, water was cold! USGS chart says 33 degrees. Not much happening at all until this weird catch. Had something wack my 4" swimshad, Pike right? Wrong lol. Legit mouth hooked Mirror Carp, my first Mirror. Ugly fish, but it chased the skunk on a cold winter day. This time last year we were crushing Pike, oh how things have changed! Back to the ice this weekend!

That's one fish that's new to me. I knew we had common and grass carp.

Re: Swimbait Mirror Carp
Cool fish. I have only seen/caught one while fishing passaic in Paterson a few years back behind the high school. That was an interesting place to wet a line.

Re: Swimbait Mirror Carp
Very cool, very ugly fish. Congrats on the nice catch. Still amazes me the variety of fish available here in North Jersey.

Re: Swimbait Mirror Carp
SC,
Caught one of those carp I would guess maybe ten years back at the Dundee Dam. My recollection is my friend I was fishing with snagged it. All these years I thought it was a normal carp which had been exposed to too many toxins but after seeing your picture I'm almost positive it was a mirror carp. Never knew there was such a species. They're certainly not going to win any awards for looks but you learn something new every day. Crazy catch on a plastic. Was it corn flavored! Dakota |
