Nj trophy pike, wow, 3/1
Hit a lake with Rocco, Mikey Topaz, GetaNet, Jimmythegreek, SkunkCity and Jigman13. Set up on the grounds and played the waiting game. Somewhat slow today with the new moon among us but hell, YOU GOTTA BE OUT THERE TO GET EM!!! Slow pickins at first with myself getting a dink Bass, Pickeral and one good sized Perch, better than getting the SKUNK. Rocco got a nice 5lb LM early in the day, good one buddy. GetaNet shook off the skunk with some nice SLIMEDARTS. Jimmy and Rob took a walk and found some Crappie in the depths. Everyone got a little something today. YEA BUDDY!!!
Now for the important part. Mikey gets a flag shallow and the beast is on the move. He sets the hook and, BOOM, something big. After a great battle and wondering if the fish is going to fit through the hole, Mikey finally gets the Pike on the ice. WOW, 38 inches long with a girth of probably 22-24 inches now that I really think about it. This kids got a hot hand. Congrats on a great catch Mikey! WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO-HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! It doesn't end there BIATCHEZ! I see a flag pop and the indicator is spinning really good. Jeremy's the closest one to the trap, I say dude get that MONSTER! And well, that's exactly what he does. After some line peeling out and a couple of AWESOME runs he finally gets the fish to the hole. The head on this PIKE is huge, gotta turn her somehow. The kid gets it done. Myself and Mikey had a helping hand in grabbing and wrestling the BEAST out of the hole. Here it is, the fish of the day, BREEDER PIKE 42 INCHES with a girth about the same as Mikeys trophy! WOW! What a fine day to be on the ice. It doesn't get any better. Glad I was there to witness 2 trophy catches by 2 great anglers. Lots of fish to catch boys. Get on em while the gettins' good. YEA BUDDY!!! TIGHT LINEZ!!!!!!!!!:D http://i1315.photobucket.com/albums/...ps91b6dd15.jpg http://i1315.photobucket.com/albums/...ps0f43238f.jpg http://i1315.photobucket.com/albums/...ps6110618b.jpg http://i1315.photobucket.com/albums/...ps59d0a9a2.jpg http://i1315.photobucket.com/albums/...ps899a842e.jpg http://i1315.photobucket.com/albums/...psb3c2862b.jpg http://i1315.photobucket.com/albums/...ps38327f40.jpg http://i1315.photobucket.com/albums/...ps72b0352a.jpg |

Re: Nj trophy pike, wow, 3/1
Sick f'n day guys. I'm wind burned. I have a huge, dumb ass bandage on my thumb from who the hell knows what lol. But you know what, the team work, effort, and fraternity of a day like today cannot be overshadowed by trophy fish (or can they lol?). Mikey handled his trophy pike with ease--a prime example of staying calm and taking things as they come. Two weeks in a row I watched him master two huge pike through the ice. Watching him helped me today...big time.
It was dumb luck for me landing that pike today. The epitome of right place right time. And there's no way it would've hit the ice without the help from the gang. From Rocco shouting "hit 'em! Set the hook!" To dale and Rocco helping me keep the tip up line free and out of harms way... To mikey and Eddie manning the hole and form tackling that beast once she reared her ugly head. Truly a team effort... One that I will look back on for years to come. She taped out at 42", gave me a sick battle, drew my blood, and was freed to fight another day. Special thanks to jimmythegreek, too. It was his tip up! Eddie, great chili (and beer)...shoot me them pics via email! I texted you my address. Mikey, them steak sandwiches were money. Rocco, thank you for having me up again--I truly appreciate it. Dale... Again... The mentor! Who the f*ck wants open water when you can slay dragons through the ice!?!?! Lol. I'm going to get drunk! Etc etc... Good luck out there tomorrow guys. Catchem up! |

Re: Nj trophy pike, wow, 3/1
Nice fish, miss the days of fighting some of those monsters when I grew up in NY and where we fished in Canada...lots of bruisers. Job well done on the ice too!

Re: Nj trophy pike, wow, 3/1
Well, we went back to the scene of the crime today. Very slow overall with some below average sized bass and some descent pickeral caught today. I went 3/14 on flags today. 2-3 of those flags were Pike that came unbuttoned and 1 bit through my 25lb leader finally. Fish had some weight to it but for now it's just another fish story. I've learned my lesson and will be armed with 60lb fluoro next time.
Positive note, there's nothing better than hanging with the boyz and doin some FISHIN'!!! Thanx fellas! See you next time. FEELING MOTIVATED!!!! |

Im tellin you there is a state record or damn near close toothy in there. Ive been fishin there since i was 12 with my buddy Justin who lives there. I clearly remember when we were about 14 we landed a monster like pictured above and we went home and told everyone that we caught a "4 foot pike" and no one would believe us LOL. im 23 now and if that fish is still in there its a real NJ trophy. Would love to see a Walleye get pullout outa there! they are lurkin too |
Re: Nj trophy pike, wow, 3/1

The only time we caught hybrids is at night when they are smashin baitfish at the surface. They are very tough to locate. Walleye are very scarce, we only had one come to the boat following a spoon in September, it was mixed in with a school of white perch. tons of white perch in there. your best bet for eyes is north of where u guys fish on the left side of the point. certain areas of the lake have old pine tree stumps that might hold them- the lake was a pine tree farm b4 it was damed, hence the name My buddy & I have pretty big artificial reefs we dropped in there too ;) That video is crazy lol ! http://i1300.photobucket.com/albums/...ps6fe73ffa.jpg This is justins wiper |

Heard a few stories about the Eyes and Brids in there. Now may be the perfect time to target them. Eyes and Brids don't travel alone in most cases and should still be in somewhat deep water now. Actually no, it's spawning time for Eyes so some are deep and some should be coming shallow. I'd look for shallow protected rock piles or gravel for the Eyes. They can also spawn in the weeds. AHHHHH, I'd rather catch a state record Pike out of there and than take it to Pompton to get recognition, LOL!!!!! |
