Ramp Advice, Keyport or Leonardo
 

Guys, Haven't been down to the water recently. I'll be launching my boat this week 27' Grady and the AH ramp is closed. So what is the better ramp to use and confirmed open Keyport town or Leonardo???

I've recently passed by both Keyport and Leonardo, both are open but neither have their floating docks in... The Keyport ramp looks to have very little water in it at at low tide so I don't think I would reccomend using it at low tide.

Don't know Keyport but you have low tide trouble at Leonardo with anything bigger then a rowboat. A 27 footer?

Leonardo is also bad at low tide! I've been where there wasn't any water on the end of the ramp. Had to wait a few hrs for some water top get on the ramp. Good luck and be safe!

I have heard that Keyport Marine Basin has floating docks and is open for use. That may be an option for you if it is confirmed that they do have the floating docks in.

27' at KMB may have some trouble getting under the bridge. Be careful

Yes and the very mouth of the entrance to the marina is all filled in with sand. 18 to 24 inches of water at low tide... Boats with outboards that can be trimmed up are usually OK 1 hour before or after low tide. Dead low you are taking a chance. If we have a new or full moon tide I would avoid the area 2 hours on either side of low tide.

As a side, funding has been approved to dredge this area and it is on the Army Corp of Engineers list to be dredged. Given all the other higher priority areas that were effected by Sandy, this project is taking a back seat to them and could take as long as a year to get done.

Keyport be better bet,low tide in both areas suck,dont know where u coming from,edison ramp has no issues only thing permit needed can get from town, its like half hr ride to hook

Keyport public is not that bad when the floater is in but as of Sat. it was not and that makes launching there a PIA Edison may not be a bad idea if planning on cashing in on some of the hot back bay bass'n that has been reported lately. JMO

Appreciate all the feed back guys!! I will plan to launch near high tide to eliminate the low water situation!

Feels great to get the season kicked off and hopefully a few bass to top the day off!! :)

splashed my 18' CC out of keyport saturday and sunday, the floating docks are in, however low tide is hairy. High tide theres roughly 7-8 ft between the water level and the pipes below the bridge, also had to clear several boards with nails off the ramp both coming and going. I havent seen the leonardo ramp yet but i have heard that woodbridge is open and some other ramps north.

Edison ramp is WAY more than a half hour to Hook.

You'd be hauling a*s to launch from Sayreville ramp and do that run in a 1/2 hour.

Perhaps Zubachs? But remember these ramps all have problems at low tide.

There's a ramp in Keansburg, Sewaren, Elizabeth, LIberty State Park, and bunch up the Shrewsbury river too. Even a real shallow water nightmare in South Amboy,

Not sure but doesn't Wagners or Browns Point, the opposite side of the bridge from Keyport Marine Basin, have ramps. Not sure if they are in working order but I think they have ramps.

I certainly don`t know which ramp in Keyport you were at , but as of Tuesday 4-16 the floating docks WERE NOT IN.

He is not talking about the municipal ramp.

And browns does not have a public ramp

Guys, Launched yesterday out of Keyport Municipal ramp. NO FLOATING docks so my buddy had to walk the wooden ledge on the side of the ramp out to the end so he can step on the boat. The wooden ledge is quite wide so not a dangerous situation. Just be careful.

Launched at mid-incoming tide and there was plenty of water. A beautiful day on the water to start the season. Also managed 11 stripers largest went 32".
