Voyager Yesterday

capt tried a few inshore spots for sea bass first.i started bucktailng and catching fluke right away.there were some nice sea bass coming up here and there but the i just stuck to the fluking.2nd drop i flip out the bucktail
and bam!!! after alittle tussel up comes a 6lb fluke.we picked away at the fluke and sea bass till around 10:00am when the capt says were off to the ling grounds.as soon as we anchor up and the capt say drop them in its game on.lots of ling coming over the rail with doubles and even triples.it was lining at its finest.when the bite would slow we would make alittle wiggle and game on again.everyone was catching, some more than others but everyone went home with fish.i would like to thank capt john, barry and chris for a great day on the water and some great fishing.my fluke ended up winning the pool, witch i gave to the mates as they really husseled to make sure everyone was having a good day.

Re: Voyager Yesterday

Great report. What size bucktails were you using? Also, were you fishing off the front of the boat for spot or right off the dock? I have done this trip 4 times over the past month and a half. Great boat and great mates. I have always done well! Plan on going out again on Saturday if the weather cooperates.

Re: Voyager Yesterday

any triggers or porgys by the sea bass grounds?

bunker dunker 08-13-2012 04:03 PM

Re: Voyager Yesterday

bigp right off the bow.only sea bass and fluke with a few ling on the inshore stuff.i think we are alittle deep for the trigs.i use the 4oz bucktails w/ the 6" gulp swim mullet.

jmurr711 08-13-2012 04:10 PM

Re: Voyager Yesterday

I think i will commandeer that bow for philly bright and early on sunday! those 6 inch mullets are to big for sea robins all you do is get those flat things

BigP 08-13-2012 04:27 PM

Re: Voyager Yesterday

Thanks! For the spot, were you using a sabiki rig or small hook with some bait?

bunker dunker 08-13-2012 04:43 PM

Re: Voyager Yesterday

i'll see ya sunday jmurr.i'll get there early and get some spots with ya.i was using a kingfish rig but i'm sure a sabiki would work just as well.

Re: Voyager Yesterday

What bait were you using for the spot? Clams, worms squid? Looks like good weather this weekend for both Saturday and Sunday. Should be a good day out for all of us.

they eat bloodworms like you and I would attack a Lobster Buffet but when those lil guys are thick they will take anything so I'd save your $ and just ask the mates for some clam and cut it into lil tiny pieces smaller then you would for a porgy. size 6 hooks, small kingifsh or porgy rig or a sabiki should do the trick. they are also really yummy scaled and pan fried with just the guts and head taken off.

Re: Voyager Yesterday

WILL HAVE A "SPOT" POOL IN THE BOW{LOL}.i was using sandworms on saturday and clams on sunday.they were on the worms like crazy but they ate the clams too.

Re: Voyager Yesterday

Great thanks for the advice! I was using bergall filets for the Ling a couple weeks back and was out catching everyone on clams. Unfortunately I was only able to get 2 bergalls and the filets were used up quickly. Figure I could load up on some spot and use them instead...

Does anybody know how the Voyager did this past weekend on tile fish?

Chico 08-15-2012 09:35 PM

Re: Voyager Yesterday

Just got an email report from them, slow drift made fishing tough, BUT they did get some BIG tiles, and some BIG snowies!!! They also have added some late season one day tile trips.
