Buck Tail Rigs

Buck Tail Rig
I have been playing with this rig, for a few weeks now it has proved to be worth posting. This may help the guys that use the lighter tails, it does not have a loop to fight with going threw the eye. if you can tie a double uni knot, you can tie this. First pic is the rig ready to fish, I like my BT on the end chasing the teaser. You can tie ether one in ether place. If you want you can put a clip on to change BTs or leave it long and cut it 1 or 2 times. 2nd Pic is the double uni knot, here you can see I use hard leader of 2 different sizes, 30lb. main line 20 for trailer ( BT ) this keeps the teaser away from the line, when using the BT on the shorter line it allows the teasers to float more freely. 3rd Pic the uni knot tightened 4th is trimmed. Russ thanks for your post it finally got me working on this. |
Re: Buck Tail Rigs
Looks good, I like that it doesn't require the 3-way swivel. Less hardware is always good in my book.
Curious question, where do you get those bucktail skirts from for the hook? I don't know anywhere around here that carries them and I wanna buy a couple dozen for next year. For now I just use plain hooks with maybe a bead or two above them. |

Russ
I have a bunch of real nice slide on teasers that I will be posting in the classifieds once I have time to get them together. If interested let me know MVP |
Re: Buck Tail Rigs
Sure, I'll check it out. I would like someone to PM me a store to buy them at though just so I can see what options are out there. Barlowes doesn't sell them pre-made.

Re: Buck Tail Rigs
Couldn't you just tie a dropper and cut one end instead of tying the uni to uni? It would still give you something to snell on to, but I think it's easier to tie than the uni with such a long tag end. It may not be as strong, but it was much easier to tie when I tried it. Not quite sure how long you want the teaser though- there's only so big you can tie a dropper.

Ah, I see now. Makes perfect sense now. I must have missed that in the original post.
Thanks for the explanation! |
Re: Buck Tail Rigs
I think I have an old box of brass rivets kicking around our basement, gonna look tomorrow and see if I can try it out. I was just gonna takesome very small diameter brass tube and turn it into 3/8" pieces with a line in the middle to hold the thread. Can probably pop 50 of those out in under an hour. Rivets might be easier though.
