Ok. I even went for the 3 bucks even though 3 at 18 would have been better.

Thank you everyone for your support with petition i started it, and yes i was on virtual meeting and yes i had my hand raised for comment and no i was never called on for comment. Also i spoke to a few other who couldnt raise hand from mobile device and were unable to do so.

I didnt even know donating funds was option as i signed it when started petition as leader. Just to let everyone know i do not need funds. Any collected will be donated to an local childrens fishing charity or recreational fishing charity. If anyone has any other suggestions i am open to it. It isnt significant money but i will assure every dime will go to cause as stated above.

Thank you for your support. I am not sure this will work, but i know doing nothing wouldnt either. Its gaining momentum lets keep it moving should hit 1000 signatures in 24hrs of being live and rate keeps increasing. I cant thank you enough for supporting it and i will fight my hardest to get our voices heard.

Thanks for stepping up and taking this initiative! Hopefully we can all get to a "proper" slot that helps the fishery, anglers, for hire etc. I dont think any of this is "it" yet but a start. Signed as its better than the option chosen.

Guys again we are doing great we are almost at 1500 signatures/supporters of the petition. Sorry for late update but i had a busy day working/fighting for us. I will say that we are starting to gain more traction and getting attention.

We need as many signatures as quickly as possible so share with anyone you know that agrees and hasnt signed.

I can not thank everyone enough for taking time to make your voice heard by signing as i stated before it takes a village to move a mountain and this is a mountain. I will make this promise to each and everyone of the supporters. I will give 100% effort in this fight because i am passionate about getting this corrected for each and everyone of you. Someone once said...."Its not the size of the dog in the fight, but the size of the fight in the dog" well rest assure i am not backing down.

Again thanks and every signature counts.

We eclipsed 1500 signatures and i am very happy with that but need to keep building numbers as we can. I had a 45 min phone conversation with david golden of nj marine fisheries today so my emails and petition are getting attention my next step is composing letter and attaching this petition and sending it to dep commisioner who must sign the regulations into law before they are official. I will not stop until there is no more options. We are definately noticed throughout the organization top to bottom. If nothing else this will help us for the future. Thank you. I will keep working for you all. Please help by sharing the petition to those who may not know about it and keep signature numbers climbing. Its still hard uphill battle but ill keep it moving in right direction.

DMac,

Can you shed any light on your conversation with Mr. Golden? Curious, if the Commissioner can arbitrarily over-rule the Council and if so, is there any precedence for that within NJF&W? I would think that internally, they're struggling with the concept that the Council went against their own Committee's recommendations, including the Bureau of Law Enforcement and and that they had to forego the typical and customary public commenting process, due to timing constraints.
Any insight would be appreciated.
Thanks.

Well obviously you did your research because you touched on many items covered during out discussion.

The commisioner must sign recommendation of council into law

During conversation there was a neutral tone and carefully worded responses to my points and questions.

There was an agreement between us that this will be very difficult for enforcement due to complication and previse measurement requirements.

Everything you mentioned was discussed as well as additional items as far as their stance they as a agency are not taking a position is what the general tone of conversation was. They just provide comment prior to council vote. Hope that answers what you were asking.

Way to go Dmac and glad you're getting so involved!

Speaking of the council, we have 2 vacant positions that are unfilled, one from sportfish for and one from the public. I think it should be a priority to get those vacant seats filled so we have a more balanced council.

This from the State page

Marine Fisheries Council
Richard N. Herb, Acting Chair (Sportfish)
Dr. Eleanor Ann Bochenek (Public)
Dr. Patrick Donnelly (Sportfish)
Warren Hollinger (Del. Bay Shellfish Council)
Jeff Kaelin (Processor)
John J. Maxwell (Atl. Coast Shellfish Council)
Joe Rizzo (Commercial)
Robert R. Rush, Jr. (Sportfish)
Kevin Wark (Commercial)
Vacant (Public)
Vacant (Sportfish)

Way to go Dmac and glad you're getting so involved! I didn't think the state was going to overturn the council decision but it seems that way and now you know for future reference what the states position is. Besides, that it could be a slipperier slope since now you have fewer paid people at the state level making choices instead of more people on the council who volunteer their time and will not do what might be convenient as far as the state is concerned.

A chess game for sure with a lot of moving parts.

People like you and me need people on the council we can talk to that represent our local interests.

Great and glad you're committed and don't rely on just typing something here to get your opinions and points across. Lots of people read this board but until someone with enough courage and passion takes the initiative to speak up to the people making the decisions, it's just wasted motion.

You go Dmac!

Curious if there's been any new developments, as NJF&W has yet to post any regulations to their website and the start of the season is less than two weeks away, assuming it's the season that the Council approved.
Thanks.

On Saturday March 19th CPO Woerner inspected a commercial fishing vessel in Point Pleasant, Ocean County, upon its return from a summer flounder trip. During the inspection, CPO Woerner documented an overage of 374 pounds of summer flounder landed by the vessel. Summonses were issued for the overage, and the case will be heard in court in April. From the March 2022 Bureau of Law Enforcement Report to the Fish and Game Council.
