Cross That Off My List (Finally)
 

I had set a goal to catch a pike on a fly this year and I was finally able to accomplish that feat over the weekend. I loaded up my kayak with my spin gear as well as my fly gear and headed to the river. I started spin fishing while paddling up river. I landed about 10 pike and 5 or 6 largemouth. When I got as far upstream as I wanted to go I decided to put the spin gear away and tie on a big streamer and try for my 1st pike on a fly. One my 3rd cast I hooked and landed a pike that went just over 27" which ended up being my biggest for the day. By the end of the float back to my Jeep I had managed to land 5 pike (lost a bunch) and a few more bass. Now I just have to get one of those monsters that JDTuna has been into on a fly!!!

I also saw my 1st NJ mink as well as another bald eagle. Great day on the river.

Wow great action there! Good work on the fly too. Was the stretch you fished an easy paddle?

Wow that's incredible action on Pike! You should be proud. I usually catch one per day if I'm lucky..

That's a great day numbers wise! Plus catching them on flies is very awesome! I've had really good luck on all black streamers too. White and red also seem to work well for me. I'm hoping to get one on a popper some time soon.
