Shark River fluke opener and bumper boat report
Started the 2019 season is less than desirable conditions. Beginning of the incoming with a hard WNW wind. Drift was either straight across or with the wind. The river was crowded as to the fact the bay side was not fishable.
Picked shorts and we managed 4 nice keepers to 22", but as the tide continued in the water became very dirty. Also the water temp. dropped from 58.2 to 51.1 at that point the bite totally shut off. WE did notice many boats with Pa. registrations, and a total lack of courtesy by many. Hopefully after today things will settle down. Dakota, a friend did tell me the pinhooker has been in Shark River this spring. A body of water this size cannot support a commercial operation, and have the recreational fleet expect to be able to take their leftovers Henry PS back at it tomorrow. |
Re: Shark River fluke opener and bumper boat report
Thanks Henry for the trip! Good body of fish on the early bite before conditions deteriorated. Probably 24-30 or so fish @ 17 inches with some smaller and the few keepers but nice to feel the Fluke "Tug"and get out:D

Re: Shark River fluke opener and bumper boat report
BD maybe you should have all the facts before passing judgement. The person is question has passed, my heart goes out to him and his family. But we're talking about a bigger picture here and people should know the facts. Someone who makes his living running a recreational fishing business turns around and rapes a thin body of water commercially every spring while his license was active at the expense of every recreational angler fishing that same body of water. Conflict of interest, I'd say it is or at minimum hypocritical.
Same individual took my work which was intended for six NY State representatives, marked personal and confidential, not for distribution, and sends it to a sponsor on this site who shredded it and ripped one of my contacts a new ******* all because it didn't support his personal agendas or the personal agenda of his now essentially defunct fishing organization. No need to get into names but both individuals worked collectively to undermine my work as I was making progress looking out for the benefit of the fishery and every recreational angler's best interest. If you're going to tell a story, tell both sides as the biggest issue the recreational sector has is what's been discussed over and over on this site. No leadership, completely not unified and every organization looks at their own personal interests while ignoring the health of stocks themselves. They all blink when it comes to NMFS, ASMFC and MAFMC and are more concerned about their personal survival than their mission to represent the sector. I put thousands of hours into my work, how about you, how many hours have you labored for the sector and stock management? And while I agree people are entitled to their own opinions, no one is entitled to destroy someone else's work which is proprietary property. So while I'm sure the individual involved was a very decent guy, actions speak louder than words and his actions in this case didn't help the average every day recreational angler or stocks being completely mismanaged. Why, all for personal gain at everyone else's expense. It's the primary reason the recreational sector will eventually fail, every club has their own personal agenda, none of which deal with stock management. So go ahead and complain but know the facts before doing so. |

Re: Shark River fluke opener and bumper boat report
you did not have to mention any about captains or there passing and i'll bet i now more about the incident than anyone on this site.he was a very good friend on mine and are you even sure he was on the boat??

Re: Shark River fluke opener and bumper boat report
BD we're all sorry for your loss of a friend and for the suffering his family endured at such an early age. But wasn't it actually you who brought his name up?
|
Re: Shark River fluke opener and bumper boat report
because he will never be a him, that capt, that guy or and other thing that might come out,he was my friend and maybe you should know what your talking about.

Re: Shark River fluke opener and bumper boat report
I know what Captain Jeff Gutman thought about me and our friendship so now after reaching out an olive branch to you and your lack of acknowledgement of the same, have a great weekend on the ice, best to you and family and maybe you learn something along the way about how to deal with decent people.

Re: Shark River fluke opener and bumper boat report
lets be honest bill if we can for a minute.do you know what happened that day or not??or do you just want to jump in and be heard.i like this site and have met allot of great peeps and have shared in some great trips with them.like everything else in life, some good some not so good.
|
Re: Shark River fluke opener and bumper boat report
I'm not sure what day you referring to, I'm not sure what happened for that reason and I'm not sure what the relevance of that would be to the thread. Do I post just to hear myself speak or be heard, no. I post when I have an opinion I want to share which is precisely what I did here. If that violates your moral compass, I don't know what to tell you. I'm trying to be sensitive and respectful to your points, but like Dave said obviously that doesn't seem to be of interest to you so let's just leave it at that.

Re: Shark River fluke opener and bumper boat report
no i don't care much about what other peeps say unless its about me or someone i care about.i would like that peeps did know what they were talking about also.as far as morals and all that, like i said before it would not be from anyone on this thread.
