Solo salmon suicide run
Wanted to switch it up one more time before all the lakes and everything turn over here in NJ. Headed up solo to the salmon grounds to see what I could play with. Started out down low and quickly got into a bunch of Kings. Small flies 8 lb fluro leader....hooked a bunch of kings ones that were hooked in the mouth I'd chase em a little but these things we're really fresh and fiesty. Ended up with one nice coho silver as all could be that I kept for the smoker. Second half of the day I spent doing some trib walking saw a bunch of dead ones but nothing in there yet, with all this rain we had that's kinda weird.... Got my salmon fix for the year now it's time to wait for these temps to drop and wait for the STEEL!!! Me Eddie and the Boyz crew trip last week of October chasing steel will be next time up for me,https://i.postimg.cc/LY2TYDF4/IMG_20180929_105119.jpg

Mike nice Ho
I was up there with my boys two weeks ago and hit it right on the money. We hammered the kings, cohos for 3 days. We are also going to be up there the last week of Oct doing the same, looking for steel. Need the next run of kings to get into the river so the steelhead and browns can start moving in better numbers. I just hope they hold in the lake for two more weeks. If not they will get ripped out by the salmon haulers. |

Re: Solo salmon suicide run
Arrived Thursday morning to rainy conditions which had the fish pushing, third cast mud shark on. we pounded the kings all weekend and had a good pick of some nice looking coho. bonus for me was catching my 1st steel head. Plenty of fish and water this year ,well worth the ride. MY son had a blast hooking and landing fish pretty damn consistent . It was priceless watching him work around some guys that refuse to move when fighting a fish. Warning bring mace a lot of people were trying to mug us, that will definitely try your patience. Thank god its only once a year .lol

Re: Solo salmon suicide run
Nice job! Just got back from a four day trip. The river was loaded. Had a great time with good friends. Hooked into a steelhead for the first time ever. That was awesome. Didn't have it on long but it was fun while it lasted. Good luck to those who go. Be safe too. Saw a guy go in. Luckily a drift boat grabbed him. Tight lines all!

That's it man! Once you hook your first steelie that's it, it's like a mahi on crack in a river. The next few weeks are prime time for them get up if u can. |
