Johnson Park, Piscataway. Walked the river banks on the out going tide this morning. Found no shortage of Ganesha, along with jewelry boxes, all sorts of fruit, flowers and a make shift shrine that I dismantled. I had to bring everything home to sort it all out. The Ganesha in the middle was an absolute BEAST !! I wasn't sure if I was going to be able to carry it to my truck it was so heavy. All along the banks were remnants of decomposing Ganesha. Found one made out of Play-Doh, that was a first. I grabbed as many as I could, I'm sure I missed a few along the way.

Suma Foods sponsors a legal event, with all the necessary permits, there. The deities are only immersed in the river & not left.

I spoke to Suma Foods, & as I suspected, individuals not associated with the above event are the polluters.

Not unlike the individual NJ anglers whom trash our waters with discarded fishing line, worm containers, etc.

Suma Foods said, “We want these polluters punished”. They are going to contact Middlesex Co. & request stepped up patrolling of Johnson Park this month.

Yes there is a controlled event stating "Please note that due to the environmental concerns the permission is granted only to dip the murti in the river and then taken out for recycling. Also this will be done by authorized personnel only. Individual persons are not allowed to enter the river waters."

I think like any religion there is a hard core sect.

Way to go Mark B! An ounce of prevention is worth a troy of cure.
Hey according to water pollution control rules the deposition of such materials in a water way is a discharge and the violators should be fined. Also there probably is a violation associated with the deposition of solid waste which could be applied to such actions. Good thing they aren't constructed of glass.

hopefully this will catch on- "Due to environmental concerns, a number of families now avoid bodies of water and let the clay statue disintegrate in a barrel of water at home. After a few days, the clay is spread in the home garden."
