Gar, 10 pound bass and so on

Well if you haven't heard I'm moving to Florida. I was never a big fresh water guy except for trout but looks like that will change. No trout fishing down there, who's gonna stand in a river with alligators 😁! I will be right on the St. John's river and lakes all around. I guess it's time to sharpen my freshie skills for those crazy Florida fish.

Those Speckled Sea Trout, aka Gator Trout should keep you busy! They are a very fun fish to target in the backwaters down there.

From what I read 8 lb. largemouth bass are common. Throw in some back bay snook and a few snakeheads, I'd be happy. Don't forget about the Tarpon. Lake O they toss 12" shiners into the weeds for 15 lb largemouth !!!

Where are you moving in Florida? I spent about 11 years collectively living throughout Florida. Spent college and grad school in Miami. Bass to 12lbs, peacock bass (fight harder than smallmouth), snook, tarpon, snakeheads, bowfin, jacks, redfish, pompano, bonefish, grouper, snapper, sails, swords, cobia, pompano, king macks...the list goes on! I worked as a fishery biologist for the state and lived in Tallahassee for a bit. North Florida and the Panhandle even have frshwater stripers! Plenty of options throughout the state! Let me know if I can be of any help.

They call hybrid stripers sunshine bass, after the state's moniker, though they fight so hard it's as if they're on the illegal stuff. Great state to fish and be biologist for.

Gar isn't bad at all. Just a royal pain in the a $$ to clean. Fry up chunks or grind up and make gar balls mmmmm. Don't let it cool down after cooking tho, turn to rubber
