Sea Urchins for tog bait?
last time I was down at Belmar, I saw a lot sea urchins scattered around the sidewalk on party boat row..The soft underside had been scooped out, leaving just the needles/shell... Now we know that a lot of bottom fish eat them,Sheepshead,Triggers, probably also Tog.. crabs and lobsters eat sea urchins as well.
I was thinking maybe someone on one of the boats got a bunch and used them.. Might be a really great bait if you could find enough of them.. Anyone ever use them, or hear of them being used?? Found this on Youtube.. Pretty interesting... bob https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Zj4-VD3N_s |

If they were scooped out, they were probably sushi.

Scattered like maybe the seagulls dropped them to break them up & eat them?

I've netted them there and eaten them. Mostly small ones, but twenty make a nice snack.

Def an acquired taste... I can't seem to acquire it regardless of how many times I try!
Pretty cool video though on prepping them for use as bait. |

Re: Sea Urchins for tog bait?
You guys that have access and know how to acquire them should take a dozen out for tog someday, and see how they work compared to crabs, just for shits and giggles... bob
