Not suggesting anything about this or any year's winner but with that kind of money on the line it's not surprising. I don't know if the Gran Pa Savino tournament had a special category like the upcoming JCAA $25k for I believe any fish caught over 12 lbs, but if so the tournaments I'm sure buy insurance contracts to pay those out if someone is fortunate enough to hit and I would think the insurance companies are the party requiring a lie detector test. Even without a special category or third party involved, that's a lot of money and not necessarily a bad idea to put all entrants minds at rest. I thought the Elk's had a provision where any angler can request a lie detector test for the winning fish assuming that angler pays for the cost. Not 100% but heard it mentioned. Winner of the Elk's this year won almost $38k so both tournaments combined the purse was probably over $100k!

I remember a tournament about 5 or 6 years ago the fluke which won it all looked like it made a stop at the Fulton fish market for a few days. Grey gills, opaque eyes....everyone questioned it. Person who caught it I believe was a member of the tournament sponsor to add more drama. BUT the fish held up and won a ton of money. Think lie detector tests in these bigger tournaments are here to stay and certainly help keep things on the up and up.
