Re: Canada Walleye and pike help!

You guys have been great help! The group I will be fishing is "simard" which includes 5 different lakes. I can't wait to go it should be a great time especially if I get to catch 2 fish I have never caught and to be out and do something I love for a whole week. But looking at all the lures I might have to start shopping sometime soon. If you guys have anymore advice keep posting. Thanks again guys!

For the past 40 years or so, my extended family has taken 1 or 2 trips a year to Caribou Lake near Armstrong, Ontario.

On that particular lake, you catch all your walleye on mepps spinners with a minnow hanging off the treble hook.

The northerns are all caught on rapala F9 and F11s (although we have branched out a bit, those are still guaranteed winners).

However....I've fished on other Canadian lakes where if you weren't dropping a nightcrawler on a harness, the walleye wouldn't give you a second look.

I personally think walleye are incredibly varied according to the food availability in the given body of water. In Lake Erie, we catch them trolling spoons, in Hopatcong you better be live-lining a herring.

Best to talk to the locals and find out how they catch them.

IDK if you troll but ANYWHERE theres a walleye swimming a bottom bouncer w a night crawler spinner rig will catch them, and the other sure fire is whatever bait is native to the lake hook it thru the nose and send it down very tight to the bottom, guaranteed winners
