tuna trip was just completed which started short of the Hudson100 square pot hopping with every one producing 7-8*up to 10-15*---close to 80 nice Mahi. Then before a short run to drift on the East wall, Bob held us over a wreck for 3-4 drifts with a Pollack in the slush tank...first 70* YFT in around 6PM; then, on the hook, until midnight 2 more along with 3-4 blue shark bite offs in 70* clear more blue than green H2O...Late PM wind came on SW blowing more 20kt than 10kt & honest 5'ers. More blue sharks and the occasional larger(15-20*) Mahi(s). In the AM we ran to another wreck for 2-3 passes with nothing coming in, a run to the West for a drift from deep up on the wall. There another early post dawn 75* YFT put in the tank. 3 guys went for tile & boated 2. Started for another spot but water temps were down to 62 and lowering, so back to some other pots which all produced---ended with well over 100 Mahi. Left at 2 PM for home and Bob intended to stop @ 2 scallop boats for the 3 legal BFT but boats had gone, so he ran to the Texas Tower for some jigging, maybe BFT's &/or Pollack on the way home. That produced skippies, a legal(27") YFT & bluefish. What with weather prediction being such a precise science, we were shocked when Thursday produced20+kt SW wind & 5-6'seas being the minimum. It probably went more west as it finally lay down 8-10 miles from home port.
We'll all be happy when this water finally straightens out like a normal year.
As always Capt. Bob burned some fuel to find us fish & the crew of Tonk, Todd--both 2nd Capt's, Chris--doubled as chef & Niko performed with their usual expertise and ability to keep us happy @ the rail.
Shorts' fiancée Jess, outdid herself this time with the variety of cup cakes...needles to say, both trays didn't last long--they are "to die for". Shorts brought an original pasta dish the everyone--this man, not only a very knowledgeable/expert fisherman, stands as an equal to professional rod builders-he's that good, could be a professional "Original Recipe Chef". What he brings is delish...
Catching will get better!!!!
Need sleep, got to shrink-wrap Mahi later Friday....
