Hey guys,

The wife gets sea sick out on the ocean but takes to crabbing in the river/bay pretty easily. I was wondering if it's possible to go porgy fishing in and around the bridges by the navesink/shrewsbury/shark rivers. I would be renting a little crabbing boat from the marina. Not sure if the porgy live this close inland at this time of year, but i prefer fishing to crabbing, so looking for options lol.

I would give it a try... For years, when there were no real porgy populations in the ocean in NJ, there were lots of small porgies in the rivers and bays.. I always used to catch them in the Shrewsbury.. Also used to catch a ton of them at keansburg near the ruins of the old Keansburg pier... That might be another option, call the pier and see if they are catching porgies there now,, Also in the bay by Officers Row at sandy hook there is good porgy fishing this time of year, with spots, blowfish, birds, fluke, small weaks, Kingfish, Croakers, small blues and small Sea bass mixed in,, I would bring a few chum logs, clams, a box of sand worms and give it a go... bob
