mad gaffer bottom fishing report Sunday 9/9, We had a fabulous day again , with the porgies , blackfish , and triggerfish. We threw back porgies that were well into the keeper range, and just kept the jumbos, and we had people with or close to there a limit. In the same spot in 18 feet of water , it took us a very short time to catch a limit of blackfish , releasing many keepers , :and just kepting the ones that were choice . Triggerfish over 4 pounds. This is tremendous fishing , people are not aware of how good these fish are to eat , or how much fun they are to catch on light tackle. People walked off my boat today , with upwards of 15 pounds of fillet, that's a lot of food. I'm thoroughly tired of people telling me that only certain ethnic groups of people like these fish . Do these people have different tongues no , They're just not Fixated on a flat white meat fish that has almost no flavor of its own , and that you can't catch , pr keep very easily . The season is closed, but you can still go fishing. I had the pleasure of eating the mackerel , Which happened to be here in droves, and have no limit, and are fun to catch , twice in the last week . Once I filleted one , and with teriyaki sauce, and a little garlic, I put it under the broiler , and it was delicious, the second time somebody smoked a bunch of them , and they were even better. Maybe the people that like these fish came from places where food isn't so easy to get , places where you value what you have. We curse what we have , and cry about what we don't have. Maybe these people came from a place where , you didn't play T-ball , and not keep score, maybe you had to kick some butt to win, and if you didn't win , there was no sympathy for you , you just had to work harder and maybe , you would be the one that would kick but next time , Maybe a baby tooth was not worth 50 bucks in that society, and these people are just damn glad to be here . I took Labor Day weekend off , and went to Maine , with my wife . I went fishing on a party boat up there, and the captain , and crew did nothing but complain about the codfish closure , As we were drifting catching five and 10 pound Pollick and haddock , about as fast as you could pull them . When I asked about whiting , they said yes they have tons them there up to 3 pounds , but nobody wants them their trash. My point is this, and I don't like to get on a soapbox , but somebody has to do it,we still have plenty a good fish to catch, and we are in an area where all the party boat and charterboat captain's are excellent, I have never seen people in an industry that try harder for their customers then the people you have here. Maybe we should rethink some of the things that we do and say, and have a good time , and go fishing . end of sermon. We'll see you after the blow
