Captains are not Cops or Fish police, we tell customers the law and the rules, if they want to take that chance, it's on them, NOT US. "MYSELF AND ALL OTHER CAPTAINS ARE NOT LAW ENFORCEMENT!

But don't worry, we will all be out of business soon enough with the BS regs.

A sea captain, ship's captain, captain, master, or shipmaster, is a high-grade licensed mariner in ultimate command of the merchant vessel.[1] The captain is responsible for its safe and efficient operation, including: ship's seaworthiness, ship's safety and security conditions, cargo operations, navigation, crew management and ensuring that the vessel complies with local and international laws, as well as company and flag state policies. All persons on board, particularly during navigation, including, public authorities, state authorities, officers and crew, other shipboard staff members, passengers, guests and pilots, are under the captain's authority and are his or her ultimate responsibility.

There is no doubt the regs are really hurting your livelyhood here.
But BS Like this is whats remembered most when regs are made. The idiots in charge will use actions like this even more against us.
These guys had thirty times their legal limit.
and its GREED like that where enforcement has come from .

Capt Ron, you would never condone each one of your customers keeping 30 TIMES their legal limit of seabass. There is no fn way the captain and crew of that 6 pack didn't know what was going on. You run a party boat, if a guy here and there throws a short in his cooler without your mates noticing, shit happens, no one would bat an eye and blame you. But each scumbag on that vessel had 80 to 90 seabass they were dumping overboard when the DEC hit them at the dock.

I hope at a minimum NY suspends his license for 30 days.

Agree 100% on customers keeping well above their limit, I would NEVER condone that, and it would NEVER get to the point where customers would be dumping fish over board around here!! Didn't want to right a book about this, tried to keep it short and sweet.....and Yes, if it got to the point where customers blatantly went above and beyond, I would surely say something! Nobody need's this kind of Press.

That captain and crew are complicit period . We all know there are at least two problems here one the ridiculous limits regarding some species that are very obiviously plentiful , secondly condoning by doing or saying nothing to slob fisherman by the captain and crew on this vessel .
Like to add a third no teeth in the law put a fine on all on board across the board for actions of some will keep most in line . Quarantine the boat until court date then this slob fishery might be curtailed .
This is one pathetic situation when a resources are ravaged , killed ,then thrown away WTF , and walking off the boat with an empty cooler or abandoning a cooler lets u off the hook pathetic ! Taking a few over the limit doesn't even fit this argument this is blatant disregard for any fisheries law with profit as the motive and pure greed that the rest of us pay for every season !
The Captain if I read correctly and I use that term loosely, attempted to evade the order to pull over alone is an admission of guilt on his part .
Those weren't anglers on that boat , they were criminals with intent to pilfer our resource nothing more than commercial Rod and reel disguising as sport fisherman.
Lots can be done but like in other situations sans the cod God in Mass . They get away killing off millions of LB's. of all our resource paying a minimum fine , while pocketing millions & go on their merry way .
While all of us reasonable anglers get to fish for crumbs !
Wonder how long this has been going on until someone dropped a dime !

Wow, after reading Captain Ron's post I just lost a lot of respect for him! It is evident that he has a chip on his shoulder regarding what he says are "BS Regs"; therefore the seemingly anything goes attitude.

As a Captain you are absoluely in command and responsible for your crew! That includes their behavior.

This Captain, who if you read the whole story, actually initially failed to stop when ordered to do so. Why do you think that is?

If you can't accept the responsibility of being a Captain then stay at the dock!
