the miccio charter state record qualifier mako 926 lbs (http://www.jennyleesportfishing.com/blog/index.php?/archives/268-the-miccio-charter-state-record-qualifier-mako-926-lbs.html)

capts kevin gerrity and dave bender took the miccio family along with matt and nick for an overnighter on july 21.
we trolled all afternoon and landed a 35 lb yellowfin and three throwbacks. we sent up at night for mako's and swords and at about 11 the shark rod goes screaming. after about an hour and a half of backing down we had the fish gaffed boatside. that was the easy part, it took another hour and six guys to get the 12' 926 pound mako through the tuna door. fish of a lifetime to say the least
in closing, i want to say that my friend and co captain kevin gerrity deserves 100% of the credit for cathing this beast. he has waited 35 years for todays moment. every night offshore for the last ten years he puts out a shark rod, and every night i tell the customers, " we aint gonna catch no mako" kevins passion and persisitance has paid off today for a fish of a lifetime..i salute you cap you deserve this fish!!!!!

Would "CaptainObvious" be a better name?. By definition, it's not a state record, or even a potential state record.

The gentleman is correct. It appears that
Because the rod passed hands to more
Than one angler it may not qualify
This shark did break the record however
We will have an answer todsy and accept
The results.
Thanks for the well wishes to all

I'm going to say it again...state record or not, it's an absolutely amazing fish and accomplishment! And I'll add that this is an accomplishment that 99.999% of the rest of the world has never done and will never do (whether it's a "record" or not)! Congratulations again!

congrats on a monster catch! truly a fish of a lifetime. just curious, assuming it's impossible to ice something like that unless you had a whale-sized body bag on board. was the meat still good when you got back to the dock? those would be some enormous mako steaks.
