Hey guys. Finally hit it right out in So Cal for a tanker White Sea Bass. Have caught plenty of 20 and 30 something pounders since I moved out here from NJ in 2008. I just never had luck with a real slug. Broke the curse on Saturday @ dawn...2 lb Mackerel livelined under a float along the kelp line did the trick. :D

Thanks guys.

Duff, I'm not sure, but it was close to five feet long. Weight was probably mid 50's, but we never hung it from a scale. The fish had most likely just spawned at it was not that big around. We had a couple fish move through at dawn and we landed some high 30's or so then I got this one. We were all giving high fives and I was real happy....Next thing you know we had a bite and my fish was no longer important. Guy my friend bought on the trip decked an absolute beast. We just stared at it for the rest of the trip. We were so pumped up about his fish, we filleted the rest. The big Fish was just shy of 80 lbs on a scale back at the dock. I'll post a picture.

They are delicious. Taste just like halibut, in my opinion.

......and I think it is tough for us East Coast guys to understand how the Pacific in that area is like a lake 360 days out of the year. Taking the Navy ship in and out of San Diego for years I think the worst we ever hit was a big ground swell from an offshore hurricane.
