My son had an issue with his reel after getting stuck on the bottom and forgetting to put his finger on the spool when he released the tension. Long story short we had to cut off a good amount of line to fix the issue and now I want to add back the line he lost.

I've done plenty of knots for shock leaders, and mono to braid but never between 2 lines of the same type and diameter. Which knot do you guys use or recommend? Or am I better off just stripping off what is left and starting from scratch. Thanks.

Mono's cheap. Strip it and re-spool.

Uni to Uni is a good choice. Another option is to put braid backing and then add your mono you have left over.

All 3 responses are spot on...personally, I'd go for braid backing--all my reels are set up like that...

I tie a short piece of braid between the old and new mono to avoid a bulky mono/mono knot.

Have to agree, mono is cheap, strip and replace.

Thanks for all the replies. I ended up adding some braid and then the mono as suggested. We're going back out next weekend to test. Thanks for all your help.
