Went down to Morehead City North Carolina with board member Ryan W for 2 days of bottom fishing. While we did get out both days which is a rarity for our trips, questionable conditions with wind, thunderstorms and heavy tide, limited our catch. We did fairly well on 2lb plus vermillion snapper and medium to large triggers. However the grouper were not very evident with only one caught. There was one decent shot of 3lb bailer mahi, but even the endangered American Red Snapper were quiet with only one 15lb plus class fish released. A few AJs and amalco jacks were caught but we generally do not target them on these trips. We still filled 2 coolers with fish and had a good time. Given what we heard on the radio about the bluewater trolling fleet's catch over these two days, we had just as many mahi sitting on the hook while getting a lot of bottom fish. Hopefully, we will get better conditions next year.
