These little guys found their way into my killie trap today. What are they? If I were in Florida, I'd say they were pin fish. They were released to the water where they swam away.

Caught pinfish in killie traps last year in Keyport.

I'm pretty sure they're pinfish. We've caught pinfish before in really warm water, in the shallows while porgy fishing up north. My bet's on that!

Not a great photo but I'd go with Scup aka Porgy.

if they are pinfish you should use them as bait. They look like fluke/striper candy.

I checked several sources and found the same markings on both this picture of the fish and the images from the other sources. I'm convinced they are young pinfish. As to their size, they are too small to use for bait.

On another note, I saw a small school of peanut bunkers in the same spot I set my killie trap. Now, that's a fluke bait I'll catch and use.
