New waders made me fish

With the summer heat in full effect and the recent rain I figured conditions were brutal for trout. But I woke up Sunday morning really wanting to test out my new waders. My old pair of Hodgman H3 had a decent run, but last time out I was left with a wet crotch. And the felt liner on one boot was coming off. Sticking to my brand I ordered a pair of their Aesis Sonic waders. They came with interchangeable rubber and felt soles. I kept the rubber soles on for this venture.

I didn't really plan on catching fish due to conditions but I headed up north to a TCA figuring maybe there's a shot. Water was surprisingly low and not running too fast. The water temp around 9:30 was already 65. Ended up hooking into three trout. Lost the first one because it was so unexpected, landed the second, the third jumped out of the water and spit the hook.

I had my GoPro going for the one, but honestly it's not my best work because I didn't expect to catch anything. It was a good few hours though and the new waders turned out to be quite comfortable.

Have been using the same pair of Hodgman that were handed down to me from my father. Have to be 3 decades old and still look great, feel better and most importantly staying strong and leak free. Have tried on some others at the big box stores, but the hodgmans are perfect to me. Just bought a new pair of boots and plan to use these until my crotch is wet. Way to get out against what you thought would happen and get into the fish. Keep up the good work

Late fall through the winter, & early spring I use Hodgman stocking foot neoprenes w/ Simms studded felt soled boots.

Then, late spring through the summer / early fall, it is shorts w/ Simms studded felt soled boots.

My friend’s unrealistic fear of aquatic parasites & mythical nasties keeps him in waders year ‘round.

My waders are a pair of "amphibious shorts" (look like shorts, feel like a bathing suit) and an old pair of vans. I'm lucky enough to live behind a beautiful, crystal clear, rock bottom creek. Eventually I'll cave and get a pair, but for now wet crotch is something I can deal with. Glad to see you got some time out on the water this weekend! I was stuck helping my girlfriend move :(
