Early stages of planning a trip to Punta Cana DR. Looking to fish probably just 1 day. Has anyone had any first hand experience with this areas charters and the fishing? I have never been before and am looking for any and all first hand info to better plan my trip.. Reccommendations and reasons why would be greatly appreciated.. Thanks in advance. Generally good fishing there and that time of year is peak for Mahi, Wahoo and Salfish... Your biggest challenge is going to be the wind. Seems like someone turns on the fan in November and doesn't turn it off until May. Like you, I was planning to fish 1 day during our stay and got blown out 3 different days and never was able to get out.
If I were you, since you'll only be fishing one day, I would leave my plans as fluid as possible and once there decide which day you want to fish based on the winds and make the plans the day before.
Unlike some parts of the Bahamas and Caribbean where you need to be careful about being taken on a boat ride, there are plenty of good operations down there. All the big inclusives live and die by their online ratings and they are not going to recommend an outfit that could reflect poorly on them. A lot of places offer open boat/split charters so you're not forced to reserve a charter in advance just for yourself and possibly get pigeon holed into a windy day you'd rather not be in.
