Sea bass near Verrazano bridge?

Hi ,
I live in jersey city and normally fish north of the Verrazano bridge for fluke this time of the year. Have never caught sea bass. Anywhere near the bridge I might be able to find sea bass?

Capt Marc is right. NY waters requires a NY registration. Please also keep in mind the NY regs for Black Sea Bass:
15" minimum length / 3 fish June 27 - Aug 31 / 8 fish Sept - Oct 31

Out of the limited seabass in that area I think you'll only get shorts. Nearest decent seabass area is probably Rockaway Reef.

Is this a new rule? What about NJ fishing permit? Do I need one to fish in NJ water?

You need a NJ saltwater registry card.

It's not a permit, he's referring to the NY Saltwater Registry. You need a valid NY registration to fish in NY waters, just as you need a valid NJ registration for NJ waters. Nothing new.

No reciprocity, you need both.

You would have to go south of the bridge, and yes, there are sea bass on some rough areas in the bay, around the rock piles, and actually there are a few small wrecks in the bay not too far south of the bridge I have fished over the years that might hold a few, unless sandy broke them up, but I dunno, the VZ Bridge area itself and even south to the Hook would not be my first choice for keeper size sea bass.. Some rough bottom spots and the rock piles get a lot of sea bass, but its mostly all little pin bass with one here and there that might approach 10 or 11 inches.. Not many keepers in the bay usually.... bob
