I am in a slip down that way and a boat came in today with over 20 short fluke and walked away with over $700 in fines and the fish were confiscated by fish and game. Careful with your business down this way. Fly that pirate flag but stop at the ATM on your way down lol.

I saw them down at Monmouth Cove Marina on Saturday also. They checked a guy filleting his fish at the cleaning table but they where legal size. This is the first time I have ever seen them down there. Be careful something tells me they are going to be out in force this year!

We had a nice chat with a CO at the Rumson Ramp Sunday. They were checking boats coming in and then launching their boat to make some stops on the river.
Seemed he was impressed we were one short of a two man limit in a few hours on the river. Said he did not see many keepers during the day. Wanted to ask him how it felt to enforce a bogus regulation that you know is not right but I bit my tongue.

I saw a guy last Saturday cleaning fish at AH marina, had a couple dozen sea bass, most were around 10 inches, and a fluke around 16 inches...

I think enforcement is the mantra this year. It's a cash cow. These limits are going to encourage violations.
I got checked while fishing off of Staten Island last weekend. First time ever. Maybe the NJ registration number was an attractant since we have 18" & NY is 19"

We've been boarded and or checked more times so far this year than past years so I would agree that enforcement is more prevalent this year. It doesn't seem like there are any more officers or boats out there, they do however seem to be more active with boarding and dockside checks.

You can use the P word if you want, but the only problem i have is that the guys that got nailed simply got greedy and took too many..
Unless they were all lying when they wrote about it,,many members here are making sure they go home with fluke to eat, regardless of what big brother says..
You might not wish for more and tougher enforcement one day.. it gets more oppressive each year, and each year some guys here say they will let their own conscience dictate thier size and bag limits, others want more ,and bigger and better agencies hounding rec anglers, from the feds down to the local cops patrolling the bay in their whalers ... bob

Agreed 100%. Officer was very cordial to us at Leonardo last Saturday and poachers get what they deserve.

Spending all this money enforcing these bullshit laws and regulations but at the same time the state cant even fix the roads... I have no issues with the fish cops they just doing their job. Its the state that has its priorities all backwards.

What about the recreational poacher?
Several years ago drifting near the bug light I passed an older tri-hull with 5 occupants and noticed everything that came over the rail went in the pail, while I was tossing back fluke 1/2" short of minimum or less.
When I approached and advised of a size limit, their response was "no habla ".
Since then I have the fish cops on speed dial in my phone.
Were they hardened criminals? I think not, but their kind ( nothing against Hispanics by the way ) needed to be taught a lesson.

When was the last time anyone has called the Fish Police? How long did the phone call take once you got through? How long did it take for them to show up? I willing to bet more than 15 mins!

As a matter of fact, I called on Saturday 5/20. It did talke them 20-30 minutes as I had moved on to another location
in order to avoid any conflict.
It was 3 against one and later the officer was kind enough to call me back and advised that I was mistaken. All was in order. That time.

My grandpa followed the law and never touched liquor in all those years of prohibition. I am sure he would be disheartened to here about all this pouching you guys are doing. The law is the law and we must obey no matter how much they screw us.

Was there ever a problem with fish police when there were no size and possession limits. You took what you wanted and ate what you took. For all of the fluke that were caught back before regulations, there never seemed to be a lack of fish. For the younger members on this board, you will only remember regulations and fish police and nothing else. You have become accustomed to the laws and have accepted them as the norm. Ask your dad or granddad about if there ever was a time when there were no fluke. Ask about how many fluke went into their pails. Believe it or not, there are people who fish and hunt for subsistence and there's nothing wrong with it. Have the rules helped the fluke from being decimated? In my opinion, No! What they have helped is production of bigger fluke. Will the poachers destroy the fluke population? Again, No! The regulatory agencies have mythical population estimates they want to reach. How they will know when that number is reached may take more than a lifetime. And then what?!

Why would you do that? Were they catching your fish? And, you didn't stay around? And, you were mistaken? A word of advice.......as the words on the Tshirts say......."Shut up and fish!"

So I don't obey the speed limit on the parkway and haven't gotten caught yet and am very thankful for this. I have gone to the grocery store and went to lanes that said 15 items or and many more over items over the limit and no one said anything. Is it right?
Fact is I'm not taking a resource away from other people. At least the commercial fisherman are paying for a license and are doing it legally and fluke that are 14 inches and larger.
Sorry, but you are wrong about people taking numerous fish that are shorts.

Would you have stuck around and possibly fought 3 immigrants on 1 ?
I doubt it.
FYI I called the main number. They had an officer call me. I spoke to the officer on the phone let him know what and where.
He called me back 30 minutes later and advised what he had found.
The stringer of fish these 3 guys had all happened to be legal.
They didn't look it from what I observed, and I didn't measure. Not my job.
Don't give me that lack of balls BS. Back to your keyboard muscleman.
I'll send you my phone # via PM if you wish to discuss further. I'm done here.

It is our responsibility to stand up against these laws. We would not be a country if the brave founders of this great nation did not stand up against the British rule of law. I understand this is not the same but we are all taking it on the chin for the benefit of a few.
