Yes I know this subject has been asked over and over again but maybe now someone can explain it better. Yesterday I was on a sponsored afternoon half day boat out of AH. There were about twenty dragging bait and one jigger. There were five keepers all caught on various combinations. Spearing, spearing with squid, spearing with Gulp, live killies and bucktail. Of course there were also many shorts going back. The ones using Gulp were all different. Some had chartreuse of different lengths and styles....Grubs, mullet, etc. Gulp of chartreuse, white, nuclear, penny, etc. If I were to carry every style in every color I would need a separate cooler just to keep them along with the killies and squid. And let's not forget about the expense to do this. And then of course there was this small youngster out with his grandpa for the first time and only using spearing with a dead stick in the water and catches a beauty of a keeper. So, let's hear what the experts say on this subject because I will be the first to admit I'm not one.

i'm no expert, but it's fishing; everyday is different. Get some bright gulp, white/chartreuse, get some natural color, and some pink. Sometimes it matters, sometimes it doesn't, i will say though most of the time less is more, rather than packing a bit of everything on the hook try 1 thing at a time and almost always use a teaser above the bucktail if you go that route.

also keep an eye of what they spit up when the come over the rail, i've been seeing a lot of little crabs...gulp makes little crabs :D

White and chartreuse 5" mullets will cover 90% of your fluking needs. Early season is the only time I'll get outfished by bait...doesn't happen often even then.

In the very rare occasion where color matters, it matters!

I carry every color and style. They have sales and rebates all the time to stock up on the stuff. I bring an extra small bag to carry a large container of gulp. When the fish are all over the Gulp later in the season you want to be able to dial in on what color and style is working that day. The color can change in the middle of a trip. Like my first trip i started out Chart then to white and ended fishing pink shine. So it pays to have em.
