Since ASMFC doesn't meet until Monday 22-May @ 12:30pm to review NJ's 2017 Conservation‐Equivalency Proposal and since the 2016 regs are in effect until new ones are in place, let's go fluking on Sunday !!
The 2016 Fluke season began on May 21st and ASMFC won't address 2017 NJ regs until May 22nd - opportunity is knocking . . . .

Better brush up on the laws and how they're written and no worries they will be posted by Sunday 😀 But I like the way you think

While fishing for weakfish this morning ;) I landed a few nice fluke on a bucktail-gulp combo back in the river. By-catch. Hey - there's no restriction for fishing in general. I have no control what species bites the jig.

The Commission’s Summer Flounder, Scup and Black Sea Bass Management Board will meet via conference call on Monday, May 22 at 12:30 p.m. to review the Technical Committee’s report on New Jersey’s 2017 summer flounder recreational fishery proposal and consider final action on New Jersey’s measures.**
The Board tasked the Technical Committee with reviewing the technical merits of the New Jersey’s proposal in meeting both the objectives of the proposal and the objectives of Addendum XXVIII. Addendum XXVIII, approved by the Board in February 2017, requires a one‐inch increase in size limit and a reduction in possession limits to no more than four fish to constrain coastwide harvest to the 2017 recreational harvest limit (RHL). These measures are broadly applied across all states to reduce harvest and provide for more coastwide consistency in regulations. The measures approved in the Addendum seek to achieve the 2017 RHL.*

I had the same idea but I was instructed that the fluke season is closed until otherwise officially opened by the state

The DEP commissioner approved regulations for this year. As of now the fluke season starts on May 25. I understand there is a battle between federal and state agencies. I am not trying to pass judgement if you want to harvest fluke now. I just wanted to inform everyone that technically, as of right now, it is unlawful.

The NJMFC sets the regulations and they become law as soon as the DEP Commission signs them. He has now done so and it is the law. The season will open on 5/25. It will not matter if the ASMFC rules against us on Monday because NMFS has assured our State that they will not shut down our fishery. As far as federal water go, you must abide by the regulations of the State whose waters you are in when heading back to port. Paul Haertel JCAA board member/Past President

If he was'nt in possession of any fluke, it sounds like an easy citation to fight.

You can fluke tomorrow you just can't keep them. I ran 5 trips today and we caught mostly fluke. We had plenty of private boats and charter boats join us plus one legal pin hooker. i will give a full report and pics tomorrow. George
