Schools finally done for the semester, so now its time to fish as much as possible. Monday we stayed in the bay, but tuesday my bottomfishing crew returned from school so I decided to run out east and it a bunch of wrecks and rocks. The action has been great with quality ling, nice tog and mostly short seabass:

Monday AM : Brandon and I went out for a quick few hours to see if we could find bait for the monday nights trip. Couldnt find bunker anywhere and with about 20 throws of the net, we scraped up a lousy 30/35 bunker. Trolled over some nice marks on the way home and picked up a bunch of monster bluefish.

Monday PM : Had Brandon, Dave, Andrew, and Lou out in pursuit of the striped ones. Ran out to a new area found some marks and had perfect conditions to chunk. from 6pm to 8pm we had insane cast and reel bluefishing. Once the tide changed we reset on the anchor and had slower bluefishing but more striped ones in the mix. If we landed what we hooked we would have had close to 20 bass, but the new guys had a tough time figuring out how to catch bass on bunker heads. Great night with barely any wind and beautiful conditions.

Tuesday AM : Ran out with dave and andrew. Arrived at the first piece in 65 feet. Got the anchors spread, dropped clams down and had 3 rods bent over in seconds. For the next 2 hours it was drop and reel fishing with a mixture of nice ling, blackfish and seabass. Once we had enough ling in the box, we picked up and ran to a different wreck in 110. This piece was loaded with congers and dogs so we didnt stay long. Came back inshore and hit a piece in 80 feet and had drop and reel tog with the occasional ling and even added a nice pollack to the box.

Tuesday night: had Paul, Paul, Dave and Haydar out on the night shift to see if we could find any bass. Ran back to where they were the night before. Again from incoming to slack it was all blues, but once the outgoing came we had some bass chew. Again if we landed the bites we had it would have been great, but the guys had a hard time figuring out how to keep a hook in a bass and we would end up with a mushed up head after we fought it for 2 minutes. Very frustrating.

Wednesday: Ran out with my father and my buddy manny. Got set up to begin the day in 85 feet. Had a few ling right off the bat but then the seabass woke up and completely took over. Sucks that the seasons closed as we had some big ones but at least i know where to run for the opener. Hopped from piece to piece but couldnt escape the seabass. Ran in shallow to do some catch and release togging and it was pretty good but the dogfish let us know they were there. Hit one more spot on the way home in 80 feet and had a nice pick of ling and short cod until the coast guard boarded us for a safety check and knocked the boat awkwardly off the wreck. Was a good day of catching, with 40 tog+ and 100 seabass, just not a good day of keeping.

Thursday: Ran out with Dom, his father and David. Hit the same wreck we hit tuesday and it was lights out. The water temp had dropped quite a bit and the little seabass and bergals vanished. We had 30 ling in short time with 2 keeper cod along with some shorts, and 2 dozen keeper sized tog. Got a call from my buddy that they were on some big stripers not to far from us so we picked up the anchors and ran over there, but we were too late. Began our run back north and hit a piece the was on the way home. As soon as we came tight on the anchors we had drop and reel togging once again, with a few really nice ling and a short pollack. Stayed with it for 35/40 minutes and then the South East wind started screaming so we called it a day.

Great action out East, and it was a nice break from catching blues in the bay. Clams outfished crabs and gulp. So I advise if youre running out there just keep it simple. I cant wait for seabass to open, we had some huge knuckle heads that were safely released, and we had blackfish over 5 pounds on every trip that were all safely released.

Back at it after the damn storm!
