When we got back to the dock on the Angler yesterday there was a guy with a commercial license fishing right in the harbor area. From what I heard he had taken 150 fluke in the last week. Of course they can keep 14 inch fish. So there are plenty of fluke but you can't have any. Good or bad?

That has been my argument for years a guy brings his family down to go fishing may be only allowed to keep one or two fish due to the size limits but when he goes to wegmans and sees a 14 inch whole fluke.. which he threw countless of those back sells for 10 $ a pound.. this kills me so to answer your question is bad very bad!!

The Good----This commercial guy can still make a living.
The Bad-----Many charter boats will not be able to with the new suggested regs. :(

So who do you know will not fish at all this summer because of Fluke Regs?
No one I know. Just complain away and do it anyway

No one I know. Just complain away and do it anyway People may still fish but I certainly think it will affect the amount of people going. A few trips for $65 for a 3/4 day trip with no fish to take home will take it's toll as the season progresses. I think most PB and CB Capt's would agree. I know I will go no matter what but I have my own boat.

$65 gets you 3/4 day in AH
$42 gets you 1/2 day

150 is nothing. I have a few friends that work commercial in LBI and to see the pictures of the trolls they pull in is wild.

The guy PAID for a permit....anyone can do it, do I agree with it, No, but the law is the law.
I only wish they offered me a permit so my customers could go home happy! NO, I am not looking for a Salt water license, just the same permit this man is using.
Yes, I would pay at this point to stay in business if it means loosing everything to a 19' fish & another shortened season.
Obviously all the pissing & moaning has done nothing over the years, so now what? More KY please......

It is unfathomable why there are two sets of rules. It's like giving one team five downs to make a first while the other must do it in four downs. Why bother to play if the rules are slanted?
BTW I hope it doesn't happen but I doubt if all the Monmouth County party boats will finish the fluke season solvent.

Your correct in this assessment , however I wonder how much tonnage he lost during the same period we are slowly losing our ability to even keep a meal !
If this figure is proportient then we both need to get of our A----ES fast !
However it never plays out that we are treated equally . Scary part it's getting worse by the year !
This's sea bass cuts now loom in our immediate future , looks like everyone will be ling , tog & Striper fishing all year !
That is until they shut that down during best part of seasons or better yet make it all catch and release !
If we don't start pushing these third rate bureaucrats out were done !! What really irks me is that we all pay their salaries so they can screw us without recourse !

Yes Lou..That and it goes against every moral fabric in my body for someone to be able to pay or to have to pay our government to get more favorable treatment then someone else... If you have the money we look the other way and all the science and regulations don t apply to you? Im not against someone making a living and paying for a license but pay to play is something that I can't get my arms around. Not for a public resource which everyone should have access to on equal footing.

Have to disagree. Did you ever try to get a permit ? It's almost impossible. I don't think they give any new ones out. You have to find someone that is willing to sell a older permit

There very few opportunities out there like Commercial fishing-
Where else can you make a living by just taking from a Natural Resource?
A farmer has to plant seeds is a good example..
What do commercial guys give back..?
Imagine there was still commercial hunting?
Same difference..?

up here in sw nova scotia the DFO banned the commercial fishermen from dragging the spawning grounds for flounder and in the last 3 years the populations has exploded and it is not a hard job to catch your 10 limit per day any size. the most common size here is 12 to 16 inch long and the first fish of the season are very fat. i caught 9 flounder today and that is the average size we have in my area. i have been fishing for 3 years and have never seen a fisheries officer. either i am very lucky or they are busy drinking coffee at tim hortons.
